Not sure how, but this is easily one of the best movies all summer. Multiple levels of funny, never takes itself seriously, super colorful, and creative.

Mostly, the movie is committed to the value of a good time.

OMG...Cheese with extra cheese. I like it. I like it a lot. This movie is greater than the sum of the parts for sure. I think the cast did a fine job, even the extras. The scenery is very nice and the effects were acceptable for what it is. I like it that the sound track was subdued, to better feature the dialog. It's not the catchy song and dance like Poultrygeist, but it's certainly got a charm not found in the "original" shark movie. Sand Sharks does seem to loosely follow the original prerequisite shark format, but it does show a bit of originality as well. While not exactly a parody or a comedy, it carries an occasional moment of pretty funny laugh out loud humor. There are a few pretty impressive one liners in the script as well. The dance party scene is to die for. The extras cast were perfect, giving an outstanding performance of this way and that. If B movies, Troma and Rob Zombie turns your page, this over the top "summer of love" movie might be one you will enjoy more than once. Not a movie for the serious movie critic, but who cares? I call it hilarious even after 5 viewings.

Mark Atkins directs this 'ripoff' of any film from the JAWS franchise. To be exact, the story line is a typical mix of any handful of shark attack flicks. The idyllic island of White Sands is the scene of gruesome attacks by ocean creatures deemed to be 'sand sharks' that have the ability to 'walk on land' or swim through sand. Dr. Sandy Powers(Brooke Hogan)is called in to identify and verify the predators. Trying to bring back party activity to the area, a huckster named Jimmy Green(Corin Nemec)plans to organize the mother of all beach parties. However the teenage party-goers have no idea that an underwater earthquake has cracked open the ocean's surface unleashing menacing creatures. Two local cops, John Stone(Eric Scott Woods) and his daughter Brenda(Vanessa Evigan)try to clear the hapless fun seekers from the beach before they become meals for the 'sand sharks'.Over the top acting, terrible special effects and cheesy script make for a jaw breaking laugh riot. Embarrassingly funny. Also getting screen time: Gina Holden, Andrea Pineda, Julie Marie Berman and Robert Pike Daniel. Filmed primarily on Catalina Island, California. Rated R due to bloody violence.

I suppose that since this film has neither the talent or budget to be good, they tried to make it enjoyable awful. Well, they succeeded in the awful part. The biggest flaw is that you'll know how this turns out after watching the first 10 minutes. The writer doesn't have any idea how to write an interesting or exciting scene. This really was horrible, even if the idea had some promise. There are also some really bad lines, lame acting, and ludicrous special effects. This is the kind of show the Sci Fi Channel plays late at night when they think that no one who is sober is watching. The only person of note who appears is Brooke Hogan, who must have been desperate for the exposure since her reality show flopped. Perhaps the sequel will star Paris Hilton.

What can I say? Just a waste of time. Even 30 minutes of this is like an eternity! I hope nobody actually made any money off of this horrible excuse for a film production. It should not even be allowed as a tax write-off for a business loss. In fact, decency should compel society to make such films illegal. It's that bad! Even Attack of the Killer Tomatoes was more entertaining; and made more sense! There is no humor, no acting, no nothing! But Gina Holden is very nice to look at, I must say! But don't let that be any motivation for you to watch this travesty; she has appeared in other films, after all.
