Frank Cross is a wildly successful television executive whose cold ambition and curmudgeonly nature has driven away the love of his life. But after firing a staff member on Christmas Eve, Frank is visited by a series of ghosts who give him a chance to re-evaluate his actions and right the wrongs of his past.

I was totally surprised at how great this film. You could feel your paranoia rise as the film went on and as you gradually learned the details of the real situation.

It was OK. I don't see why everyone loves it so much. It wasn't very smart or deep or well-directed.

Excellent characters with emotional depth. My wife, daughter and granddaughter all enjoyed it...and me, too! Very good movie! You won't be disappointed.

Scrooge is not a story that should not be told with slap sick. I do not like slap sick it is form of you hummer that is not funny. It is just mean by nature. I do not know why people I give this movie a 7. It is overrated crap. This is a 4. It is not a 7. This is a classic story that been ruined by slap stick hummer. Slap stick hummer should never have been stared. Let alone put into a classic story. Do not waste your money do not waste your time. Do not see this movie. See A Christmas Carol (1951). Do not see this. See Scrooge (1908). Do not see this. It is awful. See A Christmas Carol (2009). Do not see this movie. This movie is pooh pooh.

Frank Cross is the youngest president of the channel IBC and he's a jerk, to say the VERY least. A live telling of "A Christmas Carol" is scheduled to show on Christmas eve, meaning the crew and actors are going to have to work on Christmas eve, but does Frank Cross care? Heck no! He only cares about the money gained from his channels viewers. However, Frank gets a visit from his boss-who's been dead for the past ten years-telling him that he will be visited by three ghosts. As the visit gets closer and closer, Frank's life begins to resemble that of Ebenezer Scrooge's more and more."Scrooged" is an incredibly creative film. There have been countless retellings of "A Christmas Carol" over the years, and with each one the story gets more familiar and more tired. But with "Scrooged", Charles Dicken's story is given a breath of fresh air since it's set in modern day and centers around the yuppie culture of the 1980's. Bill Murray is perfectly cast as Frank Cross, in anyone else's hands Cross would have been unlikable even to when he redeems himself in the end. But, Murray is able to give Cross a few flashes of emotions other than anger and mean spiritedness. For real though, Bill Murray is really the only actor who could've successfully pulled the part off. Karen Allen is also perfectly cast as Frank Cross' ex girlfriend-Claire. Their chemistry feels very natural and even cute at points. If there's anything bad to say about "Scrooged" it's that when Frank eventually turns on Claire, choosing work over her, it feels a little too quick in the film. It would have been nice to see them on screen a little longer, but for what it is the relationship between Frank and Claire really, really works. Overall, "Scrooged" is a great retelling of "A Christmas Carol". It's funny, creative and surprisingly heartfelt in the end. It's not a perfect movie, some of the jokes could be tweaked a little, but over all "Scrooged" is highly recommended. It's a perfect film to get you into the mood for Christmas and if you're not watching it around Christmas, it's a great little film.

When the film isn't even an original script (this being loosely based on Dickens' "A Christmas Carrol"), you'd at least expect the film to provide added value of its own. This here isn't funny. It's totally uninspired, and it's terribly flat. Very vacant in places, you'll find yourself wondering where you're at in the film, and not even caring. Bill Murray is fine, but he only portrays his terribly shallow, badly written, implausible, boring semblance of a role. There's no sentiment or strength in the narrative that makes you care about the characters, what's going on... and as I've read in a review, "the overriding emotion seems to be anger", the whole love/redemption thing is as forced as it could be in the end.The fairy ghost is pretty fun, and the NY cab driver's okay...2.5/10. Awful, awful comedy.

Bill Murray in the 80s, one of the most charismatic actors to ever walk this planet, stars in this parody of the classic Dickens novel. It's directed by Richard Donner, who also directed 'The Omen' in the 70s, one of my favorite movies of all time. That movie is dark, terrifying and I really recommend every horror fan to check it out. I was really excited to watch this on Christmas. How could such a duo deliver anything but brilliance?Urgh...The first half an hour is actually fine and pretty fun. Murray plays a giant douche who does all the Scrooge stuff you'd expect in a modern setting. Most jokes work and it made me laugh a bunch. The jokes start to fail once the first ghost shows up. He is not really that funny and they just follow the regular Christmas Carol scenes that you would expect in a straight-up adaptation. But Murray temporarily saves the movie and stops it from becoming boring. Temporarily...The movie dies once the second ghost shows up, played by Carol Kane. She is the least funny person I've seen in a comedy in a long time and ruins this entire part. Even worse, the story now continues on very predictably...The ending is incredibly boring. This is where the movie stops to be a parody and just follows the regular story of Christmas Carol, a pretty mediocre one at that. The ending would have worked far better if they had chosen to give it a twist (Blackadder style) and given Murray a better script to work with. At the end, he breaks the fourth wall and starts to ramble at the audience, which I'm assuming was done for comedic purposes but falls flat.I don't recommend Scrooged, unless you want something for your kids at Christmas. If you are a big Murray fan, I would suggest that you watch until the first ghost shows up and then just switch it off (you know the rest of the story pretty much from now on).
