September Tapes is best described as Blair Witch in Afghanistan. Instead of hunting a witch in the woods, a small documentary film crew brave the dangers of Afghanistan in search of Osama Bin Laden. Much like The Blair Witch Project, the idea behind this film is that eight tapes were found in a cavern in the Afghanistan mountains and they were put together to create this fictional documentary

Good story, Not enough for a whole film

I cannot think of one single thing that I would change about this film. The acting is incomparable, the directing deft, and the writing poignantly brilliant.

Through painfully honest and emotional moments, the movie becomes irresistibly relatable

I was in my carmex {Military Room} watching this movie deployed as a tour of duty, I wasn't told that this movie was A MOVIE i assumed that it was real. It Fulled Me i was sitting there going through every scene watching the movie thinking to myself this is amazing. Then finally at the end i saw the commentary and was like they really pulled a fast one on me. This is one of the best scripts i ever seen put together this movie is a 10 to me thanks. The director of the film knew what he was doing they captured some very good and believable footage. The authinticity of this film is by far, one of the best. The story line is amazing, and not hard to follow but since its a movie they could have had the subtitles replaced with an all English part so i could keep my eyes on the footage instead of the caption that is my only complaint but this is a great movie. i would like to see another movie simialar in the near future.

If it wasn't for some immature gullible idiot I know insisting that I watch this "documentary" I would never have seen this comedy! This film is full of bad scripting and laughable moments. One in particular is where the Afghan police / soldiers arrest Don Larson for filming in the streets while they allow the cameraman to carry on filming his arrest and then drive away, still filming, presumably to his plush hotel. Then there's the scene where a car crashes into another car which has been turned upside down and parked nicely on the side of the road without any evidence of it being in a crash or explosion.I am surprised this has currently got the rating it has (5.8 / 10). I thought IMDb users had more sense.

I've been to Kabul, and I've been to Khowst where the major firefight took place at the border. This movie is definitely Afghanistan. The movie is good for what it is. These guys should get an award for simply traveling around Afghanistan without protection-totally insane. The movie is convincing for so long because of the ambitious nature of documentary film-makers trying to make a name for themselves. The "director" overacts, but being a director(vain) that is believable. These guys are entirely too lucky and push the envelope too far. That's when I realized that there was no way that this was a true documentary. Also the sequencing that something is always going on, there is no down time. The 9/11 twist was a little lame about losing his wife, not a good way to end it.Just because we all felt like we were had doesn't make this a bad movie. If you like predictability you're the fool. The movie was good, and a generally good idea. If you adrenaline doesn't start pumping during the scene when RPGs are being fired at the camera as you are moving down a street there's something wrong with you.

This movie wasn't what I thought it would be. I indeed thought it was a real documentary but realized about half-way through it was a complete bunch of crap. What I really found extremely irritating was the main character's blase attitude during the whole film. He's supposed to be in a country torn apart by years and years of war and filled with terrorists who would love to get their hands on an American yet his demeanor is as if he's in a shopping mall somewhere in suburban America. I mean give me a break. And the scene where he gets arrested, saying he can get more information if he is taken into custody. Ha Ha Ha . I actually laughed during this scene. (Was this really supposed to be a comedy?) There were too many scenes to state that looked absolutely absurd. On the cover of the DVD, it read "OUT-GUNS BLACK HAWK DOWN AND SAVING PRIVATE RYAN." WHAT???? The only movie this out-gunned was Pee-Wee's Big Adventure. I was totally disappointed though I did watch the whole thing. The character Walid's acting was the only thing that saved this DVD from going into the fireplace. I give it 4 out of 10 and again, only because of Walid's character.
