Most undeservingly overhyped movie of all time??

In truth, there is barely enough story here to make a film.

I wanted to like it more than I actually did... But much of the humor totally escaped me and I walked out only mildly impressed.

I remember this song from my CD-building days of the 90s. It was a classic to me back then! And now, this minute, I'm listening to it for the first time in probably two decades. Such a trip. Love this song, well, the dance version, anyways.Whoa! I digress. This is a movie review about the adorable, cute, harmless and often humorous Sky High Disney flick. I had not seen this until just now, August 5, 2018, 13 years, 1 week late, but, truthfully, I always wanted to. With my fondness of Kurt Russell growing and my all-time love of Lynda Carter with the addition of the charming idea of the plot, this was one I regretted missing. Thankfully, a friend recommended it to me at work and lent me the DVD.It's been over a decade since I saw the original Incredibles from then Pixar, now Disney animated film, but this kinda reminds me of it: a mom and pop superhero duo send their superpowerless son to Sky High (School) and eventually he does late bloom. Well, he does that plus he picks up some stereotypical high school PG movie tropes along the way.This movie is purely innocent. It's not perfect, and it certainly does lack in the special effects department at times, but I couldn't help but be caught up in the purity and the heart. No one here was set on making a bad or clichéd film. Pretty much everyone, including those same extras I saw in every background scene, put their 100% into it. And let me tell you: I did find myself laughing out loud more than a few times and more so as the movie progressed and into the climax. It started with the wonderful references by the actors and their previous works, but then the laughs continued with their actions. I really did have a great time.I'm definitely a sucker for non-main stream superhero movies (AND I still need to see James Gunn/Rainn Wilson/Ellen Page's 'Super' movie) such as Scott Pilgrim vs. the World and Kick-Ass, but it was kinda nice seeing a PG, inoffensive, all-but TV pilot superhero film.It's definitely dated with the special effects and settings, but it's worth checking out and just letting your inner hero come out. Teenager Will Stronghold (Michael Angarano) struggles with the expectations of being the son of the world's greatest superheroes, The Commander and Jetstream (Kurt Russell and Kelly Preston), as well as the everyday trials and tribulations of life at Sky High, a school for youngsters with special powers.I ostensibly bought Sky High on DVD for my kids to enjoy, but had it scheduled for a watch myself since it starred two of my favourite babes from yesteryear, Lynda 'Wonder Woman' Carter and Kelly Preston (both of whom still look great), as well as current hotties Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Danielle Panabaker. What surprised me was that, quality babeage from across the age spectrum aside, Sky High is actually a very entertaining film, a lively, colourful experience full of engaging characters and packed with inventive special effects.Directed by Mike Mitchell (Shrek Forever After), the film is a well paced teen adventure, with a heartwarming message about teamwork and accepting others for who they are. Helping to make the whole affair even more fun are some great supporting performances, with Evil Dead star Bruce Campbell as Sonic Boom, who decides who will be hero or sidekick, the aforementioned Lynda Carter as the school principal, and Cloris Leachman as the school nurse (special power: X-ray eyes). This being a Disney production, the film more than delivers on the feel-good factor, with an ending guaranteed to leave a smile on the viewer's face.

I always thought this was a made-for-cable-TV movie (was it?). Anyway, one of my daughter's loves this movie, so I watched it with her, and think it is a great little movie! It's fun! The acting is a little over the top, which goes right along with the whole premise of the movie. There aren't too many movies out there that can entertain a wide age range of audience members; this is one. The Pixar movies are the most reliable all-age movies, but this one provides a live-action alternative. You have to have ten lines for a review, so there isn't much more I can add other than it's worth a viewing if you haven't seen it, and it's the kind of movie you can enjoy through multiple viewings.

The premise here is unusual enough that the standard coming-of-age clichés all work, and it's this juxtaposition of the Everyday and the Not-So-Ordinary that makes SKY HIGH so much fun. Will Stronghold, feeling put upon to manifest the kind of super powers that both of his parents have, bemoans his lot in life: "If life were suddenly to get fair, I doubt it would happen in high school." His father, played by Kurt Russell, is torn, too: "All I ever wanted for him was to save the world..." Is that too much to ask...? Michael Angarano as Will is superb, and both Russell and Kelly Preston (who plays Will's mother) are just right in their respective roles. Lynda Carter was still looking good at this point, too, and Bruce Campbell was... well, Bruce Campbell. The fx are topnotch, as well, and, until THE TEEN TITANS or THE LEGION OF SUPER HEROES or THE JUSTICE LEAGUE OF America makes it to the Big Screen, SKY HIGH (or one of the seemingly endless X-MEN movies) will have to do.
