It's no definitive masterpiece but it's damn close.
View MoreIt's funny, it's tense, it features two great performances from two actors and the director expertly creates a web of odd tension where you actually don't know what is happening for the majority of the run time.
View MoreThe film may be flawed, but its message is not.
This is a dark and sometimes deeply uncomfortable drama
View MoreI think this movie is brutally underrated. It has a brilliant script and the cast is amazing! Almost every little details in this movie contributes to its hilariousness. Sally Field and Kevin Kline, together they bought a "melodramatic -and - crazy - funny" look to the film. And the rest of the cast did a great job, too! You will find yourself eager to find out what Robert and Cathy's characters are up to next. The movie is so "soapdishly" good! I've watched it so many times and yet I can't stop laughing out loud. I think some people don't like it as they think it is absurd and ridiculous but they just don't get its wits. If I want to watch something pleasant and joyful for a Saturday night, I'll definitely choose Soapdish!
View MoreA great film. The only reason it doesn't have higher ratings on IMDb is because audiences are too stupid to get the humor. Their loss.Star studded cast - I want to say how great Kevin Klein's character is, but to do that wouldn't be fair because all the other talented actors in this film who play their characters perfectly. The artwork, set and costume designs are really good too. In the same way that the Cohen brothers did a period piece in the making of The Big Lebowski (even though the move was made only a few years after it was set), the same consideration was paid here. My guess is that all the actors who worked on this still look back on this as one of their favorite projects. Surely that's a good thing.
View MoreOK the plot is that these people are fed up with actress Celeste Talbert after winning an award and Montana Moorhead and David Barnes are more than sick of seeing her get all the hype so what happens is they hire an actor that plays in a nowhere-near-successful-play-theatre Death of A Salesman who is named Jeffrey Anderson so what David here does is hire them when also a subplot goes around about actress Lori Craven which made me actually realise that Elizabeth Shue isn't a bad actress after all just made some horrid choices. eventually she acts on the soap opera (which soap opera's are about as much fun as thorns through your skin) the acting (on the set of the soap opera) is in the category of "so bad its funny". The twist makes the movie even funnier. When it comes to bad writing the writers were trying to make the soap opera bad...at least it would be better than the crap that gets praised on TV that is in the "Bad" category. The writing full stop is good. The acting enough said (You have a cast that won Oscars back in the day they gave their awards to popular movies). All in all a great movie."She's A Boy"Don't Ask
View MoreEvery aspect of this film is exaggerated but Sally Field, Kevin Kline, Whoopi Goldberg and Matthew Broderick perform delightfully and Elizabeth Shue is wonderful as (well, I don't want to spoil the plot for anyone who hasn't seen the film by explaining her role). Is the story credible? No. Are the characters believable? No. Is the script especially good? No. Is the outcome even remotely worthy of suspended belief? No, no, no.But Kline, Goldberg and Broderick are major talents, and this may be Sally Field's best film performance ever.Leave your critical instincts in a lower drawer and enjoy.
