Plot so thin, it passes unnoticed.
Good start, but then it gets ruined
A Brilliant Conflict
Although it has its amusing moments, in eneral the plot does not convince.
View MoreI absolutely love this film!! It's 100% in my top 5 favorites! Johnny Depp's performance, as well as the other cast members, is fantastic! I myself am not a fan of musicals, but I really enjoy that this is a musical! I give it a 10/10!
View MoreThis is a Thriller Musical and a Drama movie and I love Thrillers. It was released on January 2008, I was 6 years old and I couldn't see it before 12 years old. When I saw this movie, I was so excited. It was awesome and the visual effects were wonderful. The plot is about Benjamin Barker, a barber who went to jail because the mayor of Fleet Street loved his wife and wanted to seduce her. When he got out after 15 years, he just wanted revenge. He was so angry that he wanted a huge revenge. The cast is composed of Johnny Depp, Helena Bonham Carter and Alan Rickman. I think that Johnny Depp gives the most amazing performance as Benjamin. He plays very well and made me feel sad and angry like his character. Alan Rickman is the mayor, he is perfect for this bad character because his face and his voice have something mean in it. The actors sing well and a lot.Stephan Soundheim and Chris Lebenzon, the sound designer and the composer made something top notch. Their song made feel like dancing and singing with the characters. Tim Burton is certainly my favorite producer and when he makes a film with Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter, you can be sure I've seen it because they make a perfect team.fatoudepp
View MoreSuch excellent players like Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter are ill-spent in this not better than fair movie. The best of it is the Victorian London atmosphere in interiors, exteriors and clothes, aristocratic and popular. The story in itself is somewhat abstruse. A corrupt judge is aroused by the beautiful wife of a barber and to be able to take hold of her has her husband imprisoned on a false accusation and sent to deportation. He comes back fifteen years later with a false identity and wants to take his revenge on the judge. The next episodes are grandguignolesque and somewhat incomprehensible filled with several murders of the barber's clients in the barber's shop he had installed in the first floor of a confectionery owned by a woman with whom he starts a love relationship. He cuts their throats while pretending to shave them. The victims' bodies are used by that woman to bake meat pies. Among other things, what is strange is that no friends or relatives ever turned up to query about those disappearances. The barber ends up by getting hold of the judge after attracting him to the barber shop on a false promise and he cuts his throat there. And from horrifying scene to horrifying scene everything turns out badly to the barber, his companion and even his wife that appears in the end and who he thought was dead a long time ago. He cuts her throat too since he didn't recognize her and thought she was the beggar in whom she had changed herself. Awful indeed.
View MoreThis film focuses on Sweeney Todd, a vengeful barber convicted for a crime he didn't commit. Directed by Tim Burton, this film has a screenplay by John Logan, based on the stage musical of the same name written by Hugh Wheeler. The cast is headed by Johnny Depp, Helena Bonham Carter, Alan Rickman and Jayne Wisener, among other actors.Tim Burton is a director about which I have many reservations. No one disputes his creativity, not their ability to create great movies. The problem is that he makes excellent films with the same ease that makes huge mistakes. So, I had few expectations when I went to see this film, and it still fell more when I saw it was going to be a musical. However, I was very pleased with what I saw, and I think Burton, this time, did a great job.I don't know the original play, so I cannot tell if the script was true to the original story but I think it's a good script, doesn't make mistakes or leaves important questions unanswered, besides having interesting twists and an excellent finish. The actors were excellent, particularly Depp, who knew how to combine his taste for bizarre roles to a strong and deep voice. Helena Bonham Carter also shone, in an obscure character whose obsessive love leads to a journey to doom. This macabre couple really managed to give life to this film, turning it into a mix of horror and musical movie, which thickens as the plot goes to the end. Its a film that proves without doubt that the musicals doesn't need to be romantic and very cuddly, since the musicals can be seen as a scenic (and cinematic) variant of the opera, a so popular and dramatic spectacle in the past. The sets, costumes and visual effects are excellent. We are talking about Burton, so it couldn't be otherwise. Its a fairly graphic film to some extent, with several liters of arterial blood and scenes that may shock more sensitive people. The soundtrack is the responsibility of Stephen Sondheim (author of the original musics and lyrics) and is excellent, remaining in our memory for a long time.
