Blending excellent reporting and strong storytelling, this is a disturbing film truly stranger than fiction

The film's masterful storytelling did its job. The message was clear. No need to overdo.

There are moments that feel comical, some horrific, and some downright inspiring but the tonal shifts hardly matter as the end results come to a film that's perfect for this time.

Married Baby

Just intense enough to provide a much-needed diversion, just lightweight enough to make you forget about it soon after it’s over. It’s not exactly “good,” per se, but it does what it sets out to do in terms of putting us on edge, which makes it … successful?

(Based on a casual viewing in Apr-15)To begin with, it was not an easy film-viewing experience; however, Ned Benson sure did a good job at directing but, mostly at writing. Though, I am still quite confounded about what conclusion should be drawn from this strangely sentimental, tragic stricken romantic-drama about a married couple falling apart; which is the reason perhaps not to watch it again, or to skip it altogether. Still, there is a dull-sense of association that one could form while watching this certain production. The film proved to be somewhat a surreal viewing experience when observing closely the treatment of a really difficult, helpless and hopeless situation heightened by the mind's own stress and insecurities, on a general scale. It may not be the best in a while, still it stands quite unconventional just because of the aforementioned, even in its stereotypical plotting.Beautifully portrayed by James McAvoy, and by the formidably outstanding and one of my personal favourites - Jessica Chastain, with both characterisations above mark, but it's actually their on-screen chemistry worth a lot more, and perhaps the best reason to watch this film; and also the other two parts of this trilogy.Rating - 6/10

It's Valentine's Day. SWMBO wanted to watch a chick flick, so she found this one about love lost and regained. Supposedly. It started bad and went downhill. I sat through it for her sake, but that is 123 minutes of my life totally wasted that I will never get back.Lord, this movie was terrible. Bad acting, no coherent storyline. The only saving grace is the far too brief appearance of Nina Arianda in a short skirt. Jessica Chastain looks like she is fighting anorexia and losing. James McAvoy has no acting talent that I can see.Overall, this movie was a waste of film stock.

Sorry, but I had trouble understanding the words that the characters were speaking. This was particularly true for Jessica Chastain's mother with a French accent. Was this intentional for some unknown reason? OK, so there were 3 different versions of the same movie. So maybe I should reserve judgment until viewing all 3. But viewing the first one with my wife, we just did not "get it." Jessica Chastain was depressed. OK, we get that. But it was very hard to sit through 2 hours of watching her in that state, believe me. So hard that I really do not care to watch the other 2 versions. Normally I would look forward to any movie with Jessica Chastain. But now, I will really have to think twice.
