Go in cold, and you're likely to emerge with your blood boiling. This has to be seen to be believed.
View MoreIf you're interested in the topic at hand, you should just watch it and judge yourself because the reviews have gone very biased by people that didn't even watch it and just hate (or love) the creator. I liked it, it was well written, narrated, and directed and it was about a topic that interests me.
View MoreThis is a small, humorous movie in some ways, but it has a huge heart. What a nice experience.
View More.Like the great film, it's made with a great deal of visible affection both in front of and behind the camera.
View MoreI managed to find this movie on Netflix streaming movies. The initial premise is simple, two guys and two girls skip out on a end- of-term field trip to spend 3 days "camping" in an old emergency shelter, underground with a metal door that opens up on a hillside in the woods. Basically a place few would know about and not likely stumble upon. But something goes very wrong. As the movie progresses initially and one of the girls makes her way to safety, and is explaining to a psychiatrist what happened, we see that dramatized. But is that what really happened, or do we have a case of 'unreliable narrator'? While this isn't a great movie is did hold my interest, I had no idea what would develop. I also like the actors, especially the two female leads, Thora Birch as Liz Dunn and Keira Knightley as 'Frankie'. In fact this is the role where at 15 during filming she flashed her breasts for a second, an act which has created at least a bit of controversy on the discussion board. But it was quick and innocent.SPOILERS: The first story we see, which is not accurate, has the four being locked by another boy in the secluded shelter then failing to show up 3 days later as agreed. But in fact he was a scapegoat, it was all a plan of Liz's to get a cute boy to like her, and when things went wrong each of the others died one at a time. All for the silliness of trying to get attention. To cover her tracks she put the shelter key in the other boy's pocket, pushed him into a stream, he was found dead with the key. They assumed suicide from guilt. Liz, the teenage psychopath, got off.
View MoreThere is nothing special in this movie, but it is not a bad movie. It keeps you with the wish of seeing more and I was not bored. But I was not surprised. I think the direction failed. It could have made this film much more special. All the elements are there. The actors are OK. But something is missing. Anyway, not all films can be all 10/10. So, this film for me deserves to be seen, because after all is not so predictable, and as said is not, or was not for me, boring, and what I think can be strategically good is that this film can be watched by lot of different people with different tastes and sensibilities. Not, probably, by very sensible persons, but being not very very full of suspense and thrills and disgusting things (well, at least not so much), it has a relatively wide public to satisfy.
View More**spoilers guaranteed**This film has me confused a bit. On the one hand, I'm left feeling satisfied and entertained, but on the other hand, a little unhappy and slightly disappointed.Firstly, the good bits. I LOVE the fact that this is one dirty, no nonsense film with a very unhappy ending and a nice chunk of grittiness chucked in. There is no hint of Hollywood glamour in this, and for that I am grateful. Keira knightly was really good, I really believed her character. The not-so-good bits... It was extremely predictable. I mean, really?? That was supposed to be a twist? I wasn't surprised, shocked or horrified. I did a big 'meh'. I just didn't really care, and wasn't surprised! She was obviously a psycho, no suspense was built up and I was left feeling rather deflated. Also, I've never been massively dehydrated, but if I were I doubt I would think to have some rampant sex with a girl that I didn't even like previously. Also, killing a guy because he had hidden some drink? Maybe after a massive argument or after some tension had been built but there was nothing at all, the murder seemed plonked in the middle of the film for no reason. Finally, why was this girl not the prime suspect??? Why did they all believe her that they were locked in, when there was no evidence against the other guy, and there was no evidence to suggest that she had picked the lock. The only DNA and stuff they found in the hole was of the 4 teens. It doesn't take a genius to realise that the only surviving girl must have been responsible. At the very least, responsible for Geoff's murder and the manslaughter of her lover boy. Just to make the viewer feel even more annoyed, we're expected to believe that a crazy psycho survivor is to be believed over a police psychologist? Pfft, very unbelievable. But still, I applaud the fact that it was a genuinely interesting film, not cheesy, not stereotypical, and not cringe-worthy. I would actually watch it again! Worth seeing, even if you aren't 100% happy, it's a must watch to add to the list.
View MorePersonally, I don't think this film should be labelled 'Horror'. If you are looking for some jump scare, psychological horror stuff or story that a bunch of teenagers get slaughtered during their adventure which is what I thought before watching this film, the hole is likely to disappoint you as it is much more of a drama. The story is not as twisted as what I thought particularly the ending, but it's still enjoyable with the tension progressing between each character. Thora Birch's performance was absolutely stunning. She made her character believable just like what she had done in American Beauty. This is a thriller about teenagers with some disturbing scenes and the story revolves around the character starred by Thora Birch. Therefore, if you are a sucker of this kind of film, go check The Hole. But for horror buffs, please stay away from it. 6/10
