Am I Missing Something?
I wanted to like it more than I actually did... But much of the humor totally escaped me and I walked out only mildly impressed.
View MoreGreat story, amazing characters, superb action, enthralling cinematography. Yes, this is something I am glad I spent money on.
View MoreAfter playing with our expectations, this turns out to be a very different sort of film.
View MoreOne evening in New York City, weighty bus driver Cedric the Entertainer (as Ralph Kramden) picks up attractive young waitress Gabrielle Union (as Alice). They are quickly married, with Cedric planning to become a millionaire by being prepared for "Y2K" (the millennium-changing year 2000). Six years later, Cedric is still poor. He's working on additional "get-rich-quick" schemes, though, with neighbor and pal Mike Epps (as Ed Norton). A sewer worker, Mr. Epps is married to Ms. Union's best friend Regina Hall (as Trixie Norton). The wives see an opportunity for both couples to move out of their apartments and into a dreamy Brooklyn duplex, not knowing Cedric has squandered his savings...Another re-make of a beloved old classic. These things almost never work out, but they keep making them. One reason is that the projects seem exciting during development stages. There is nothing inherently wrong with a change in ethnicity, and the casting looks acceptable. Yet, this is a dud. The leading players have none of the "chemistry" that existed in Jackie Gleason's original skits, series and specials. Although Mr. Epps' "Norton" is somewhat more successful, these Honeymooners are classy actors pretending to be poor. The original players seemed to really inhabit their poor, working class clothing. The laughs would have worked better in a thirty minute TV situation comedy episode.** The Honeymooners (2005-06-08) John Schultz ~ Cedric the Entertainer, Mike Epps, Gabrielle Union, John Leguizamo
View MoreI will not understand Hollywoods obsession with making over old TV shows geared towards younger people. I don't want to sound like my grandfather, but why not just make a movie about two people with get rich quick schemes? Why do they feel the need to sully the classic that is the Honeymooners when almost every kid in America who saw this movie had no idea it was a remake of a good TV show. It was almost like when Gus Van Sant decided to redo Psycho. I went to see it in the theater because I was such a fan of the original. And half the kids in the audience thought they had come to see a slasher movie. They had no idea of its origin and that bothers me. Just like they are going to 'update' Have Gun Will Travel. A movie based on the 50's TV series with Eminem in the lead. Are these people kidding me?!
View MoreCome on! We know this was a horrible movie. We know that a lot of plots in this movie were stupid. Why would someone risk so much money in so many get rich schemes? Why did Mike Epps make the dog lose the race and keep them from winning $20,000? Why did the wives even bother to show up at the dog races. Why did Cedric continue to let that gas guzzling con artist take money from him to train that orphaned dog? Why did the train that Cedric sell back to the foreign man sell for $1 million? There were so many stupid unbelievable plots! Yes, this movie isn't like the 1955 version of the Honeymooners. But it is just as funny. Plus any movie with fly Regina Hall and fly Gabrielle Union cannot be that bad!
View MoreYEAH! "The Honeymooners," baby! A classic show gets an extreme makeover for the new millennium! It's nice to see that a black cast finally has a go at this movie based on, of course, that classic CBS show with the same title! You know, I heard a previous poster suggest that a theatrical remake of "The Honeymooners" would have been better if Josh had played a role. I mean, both ideas are great! Now, let's see the same things happen to other classic shows, like "I Love Lucy" and "The Brady Bunch!" "The Honeymooners" is one movie that should never be missed! It has all the laughs, all the smiles, all the fun...everything America likes in its cinema!
