Good concept, poorly executed.
The movie's neither hopeful in contrived ways, nor hopeless in different contrived ways. Somehow it manages to be wonderful
View MoreGreat example of an old-fashioned, pure-at-heart escapist event movie that doesn't pretend to be anything that it's not and has boat loads of fun being its own ludicrous self.
View MoreThis movie tries so hard to be funny, yet it falls flat every time. Just another example of recycled ideas repackaged with women in an attempt to appeal to a certain audience.
View MoreIn rural Australia a pest control operative identifies his daughter's body, and finds that she was drugged and abused while making porno movies. He sets out to find and punish all those responsible. This is a simple revenge story, well made, with a towering central performance from Peter Marshall. It is also extremely violent (although, perhaps, not particularly graphic - the camera tends to cut away before the moment of impact), highly improbable, and unremittingly sleazy and depressing. I understood what the filmmakers were up to, but I didn't find the end result something to be enjoyed.
View MoreThis is a film worth a watch but it doesn't rate as a classic unless your thing is gratuitous torture scenes. It has the potential to be an excellent film as it contains some nice cinematography, a decent soundtrack some excellent acting and a revenge plot that puts you firmly on the side of the protagonist. There are a couple of nice twists and a sweet, surrogate father-daughter relationship between Peter Marshall and Caroline Marohasy. The film falls down by not developing enough narrative between the bouts of violence. I think they could have reduced the revenge attacks by half and developed the story about the ever expanding gang of rapist bully boys. As it is, it gets quite repetitive. There is only so much pain the normal human body can take, and in the world of films its acceptable to notch that up somewhat. The Horseman pushes the suspension of disbelief a little too far for my liking. How many times have we seen that fumbling with key and handcuffs routine? Its a shame when a film hints at a potential of being very good but ultimately the narrative lets it down.
View MoreWatch this if...you were a fan of Taken, but not one to shy away from violence, gore, and brutality. A really fun and entertaining movie from start to finish, but not for everyone. I highly recommend for a good revenge film.Acting/Casting: 7.5* - Outstanding acting from everyone involved. Peter Marshall does an amazing job in the lead role and the pain inflicted on the villains is palpable.Directing/Cinematography/Technical: 8* - The directing and cinematography is great. The fight scenes are outstanding and believable, but a few seem a bit far fetched. The movie is gruesome and brutal and the audience can feel it.Plot/Characters: 7.5* - A typical revenge story that is slightly similar to Taken, but much more graphic, brutal, and violent. Just like Taken, it is easy to get on the father's side and to watch him get revenge on those who wronged his daughter. This is a fairly simple script that had to be acted out well in order to make for a good product, which thankfully happened.Entertainment Value: 8.5* - Superb experience that manages to be entertaining and gripping from start to finish. I plan to watch it again very soon and to actually purchase it very soon.My Score: 7.5+8+7.5+8.5 = 31.5/4 = 7.9Email your thoughts to filmwatchinfool@gmail.com
View MoreWhy they have chosen this title is still an enigma for me but that's my only complaint. This is pure brutality. It's not in the style of the latest French flicks but I can agree that for the squeamish this is a little bit too much to take. It isn't really gory but it is the style and almost showing what will happen that makes it good. The suggestion that things are happening really gives you goosebumps and surely if you are a boy. The story never lacks and just when you think things can't go wrong anymore things are going wrong. To classify it under horror I just don't know, but the brutality surely does make it almost a horror f lick. The acting is all believable and the agony and pain is almost touchable in your room. It's strange that this flick over here was immediately in the sale boxes, even on Blu Ray I just had to pay 7 euro's brand new...go catch your copy!
