Dreadfully Boring
I like movies that are aware of what they are selling... without [any] greater aspirations than to make people laugh and that's it.
View MoreI gave this film a 9 out of 10, because it was exactly what I expected it to be.
View MoreAll of these films share one commonality, that being a kind of emotional center that humanizes a cast of monsters.
View More"Malj" or "Mallet" is an award-winning 10-minute live action short film from 1977, so this one has its 40th anniversary this year. It was written and directed by the highly prolific (usually editor) Aleksandar Ilic and it is among his more known works today I guess. It's from Yugoslavia, but no dialogues included, so you will not need any subtitles to watch it other for the credits perhaps. The film depicts the chicken genocide that is as present today as it was in the 1970s and this basic story was already the more memorable part for me, the depiction of circumstances. The actual plot in the second half did not really make an impact on me, I am also not sure what it was about: race? being different in general? or freedom of speech/opinion? Maybe you need to be from the filmmaker's country or time to really understand the context here. General audiences, including myself, won't, so you can call this one a film that has not aged too well. I give it a thumbs-down. Not recommended.
