Absolutely the worst movie.

While it doesn't offer any answers, it both thrills and makes you think.

This is a coming of age storyline that you've seen in one form or another for decades. It takes a truly unique voice to make yet another one worth watching.

I think this is a new genre that they're all sort of working their way through it and haven't got all the kinks worked out yet but it's a genre that works for me.

This film is a love story that connects two people that are two thousand years apart. The modern plot and the ancient plot merges together seamlessly in this film. Every transition is done well, making the complex plot quite easy to follow. The plot is innovative and original. The film is entertaining and fun, particularly the comedic action scenes. The prime example is the rat glue factory scene and the mausoleum fight scene. The anti-gravity scenes are convincingly made, and results in quite a lot of fun (the mid air swim got me laughing)! The only criticism I have is the wooden acting of Tony Leung. He can really do better than that.

San wa (or the Myth) is a film that tries to be a lot of things but fails in all of them. It variously attempts to be a romance movie, an action-comedy in the vein of Jackie Chan's usual fare, a historical epic, and a sci-fi/fantasy movie. Though the script attempts to tie all of these elements together in a high-brow epic that spans history, it ends up being a completely incoherent piece of crap. Luckily, the story is bare enough for anyone with minimal logical skills to understand, so the movie's attempts at complexity fail as well.Story besides, the acting is hammy and misbegotten, and for the action/martial arts scenes you would do better to look to Jackie's earlier movies (for example Drunken Master II). Nevertheless, there are a few amusing fight scenes (which also have no real point or basis on the plot). On the plus side, there is the cinematography. The vistas and settings are impressive, and the film is crisp so you can really appreciate the vast deserts and luscious waterfalls. The ending battle takes place in a surreal yet picturesque CG world, which was interestingly enjoyable. In the end, however, you would do better to avoid this ridiculous mishmash and watch Drunken Master for the action, and the Discovery Channel for the vistas.

A while back, Jackie wanted to be in a drama movie. What a missed opportunity this was! He could have had that in the second half of this movie (in the modern time). Skip all the fantasy stuffs (meteorite, immortality pill, horse kicking, celestial palace etc.), and just focus on the love story that restart in modern time --- this could be a good movie. He had a good opportunity with Kim Hee Soon. Not the best chemistry, but if allowed to developed further, it is so possible. Wonderful song, too, he sang with Kim Hee Soon --- if you know the meaning of every single word in the lyric. Perhaps wrong director and vision… But then, Stanley was the one who wrote the story. His main weakness is focusing on too much action (and CGI!) and lack of substance (drama). The action part was not even that good other than the time when Jackie fights. A horse that kicks on command… I had to chuckle on that one. Not because it's not possible; just the fact that the CGI looks so bloody awful!

I finally got down today and watched it since the song really drawn me into watching the movie. I have to say, this movie was really better than I expected. This isn't just another one of Jackie Chan's funky movie where he just being nice guy and all the sudden beats up everyone. This is totally different. I'm just impress that he actually took this role despite of his age. I was surprise that he looks quite cool in warrior armors. The action scenes were exciting and different compare to his past roles. Yes old Jackie finally stop slapping people with his hands and started slashing with a sword. I highly recommend people to see this movie if they didn't see it yet. The only thing that made me not give this a 10 is because of the ending. I really didn't liked it but maybe others will. Also I didn't think I would get into the romance party of the story, I mean come on, Jackie Chan is so old and the actress is like half his age, but to my surprise I actually did get into it partly because Jackie Chan looks younger somehow in plate armors. At last I have to say this movie is better than the ratings. But don't take my word for it, go see it and find out for yourself.
