Good story, Not enough for a whole film

I like movies that are aware of what they are selling... without [any] greater aspirations than to make people laugh and that's it.

It's the kind of movie you'll want to see a second time with someone who hasn't seen it yet, to remember what it was like to watch it for the first time.

The book is a beautiful, sweeping novel that looks at religion, medicine and humanity 1000 years ago. Unfortunately, the movie bears no resemblance to the book. The screenwriter took the general idea of the novel, the same character names (for the most part) and wrote a completely different story. This is hugely disappointing for a fan of the book. If I hadn't already read it, I may have enjoyed this movie. However, in my opinion, there is so much underlying background information about many characters and 'the way things worked' missing, that the movie feels shallow to me. One of the most gratifying themes to read was the delving into and comparing of religions and cultures. This only exists at a surface level in this film.

It's a real falsification of history , ibn Sina the greatest physician of all time didn't commit suicide, nor lived in asfhan, and all historical events mentioned here was never happened, I wonder why the writer chose a real hysterical character to build his storyline, he could have chosen any character and it would have been the same, but to mutate such a great character like Ibn Sina, it was a shame The film was meant to reflect a political message, which is OK to represent a certain view whatever we agree with it or not , but it needs to be honest with your viewers as most of the people are not history educated. The scene of Ibn Sina working as an assistant for the young British barber is a total insult for a great character , Ibn Sina was named the chief physician, and his books were the main reference for medicine for more than 7 centuries.

We really enjoyed this movie. It is long, but did not seem it at all. The movie had a great pace to it (never slow), and it covered a lot of ground (literally). The entire movie could have been drawn out over 3 or 4 movies when you think about the timeline of what was covered, but they did not do that - so it is jam packed with intrigue, mystery, romance, some action, and romance. The costumes and setting were great, elaborate, and I am sure a lot of CGI, but you really felt like you were there in the year 1,000.The Director did a great job, and told the story very, very well. He made it very, very interesting, and did not seem like a 2+hour movie at all ! Acting from Tom, Ben, and Stellan was great. They are all really good actors, and I love their work (Tom is currently in Walking Dead). Definitely recommend this movie. I totally missed this movie when it came out in the USA, so I am glad to have found it now !
