MORTAL KOMBAT: REBIRTH is a short film released by Kevin Tancharoen (Director) in 2010. It was originally made as a proof of concept for Tancharoen's pitch to Warner Brothers for a reboot movie franchise. This 8-minute short features an intricate fight scene choreographed by Larnell Stovall. The film was still a fun one that will make you laugh and have you leaving the theater feeling like you just stole something valuable and got away with it.

I didn’t really have many expectations going into the movie (good or bad), but I actually really enjoyed it. I really liked the characters and the banter between them.

I may be 17 but I am a big fan of mortal kombat, loved the games and then liked the films, however I must say that you guys need to stop looking at this film as a remake, look at it as a brand new film. The concept is great, having the same old storyline would just be too boring and predictable whereas by bringing in a whole new concept for the film they are able to play with the storyline a lot more. And about the whole fantasy element, I would like to see a slight fantasy element but not as much as in the previous films or the games as that is too much fantasy, but the trailer doesn't mention any fantasy but then again it doesn't mention lack of a fantasy element, you really cant be sure unless someone actually does make a full film out of it. They chose a great actor for the role of jax as he is so bad ass. And as for the other characters I think I would enjoy watching the film and trying to figure out who is who before you are told, it would be interesting to see how the characters came to be. So again look at this as a brand new film, a "rebirth" of the film ;)

What can I say, it looks interesting, but twisting the whole story line towards a more "realistic" approach is a retarded idea. Mortal Kombat is meant to be far fetched.. with thunder gods and mutants.. coming up with doctors gone made (who are martial artists ofc) etc wont work. They tried it with that GOD AWFUL Street fighter movie, and it will not work with this one either. The 1st Mortal Kombat movie almost had it right, but still kinda failed as they made it cheesy with a poor plot. X-men 1&2 is a fine example where they got it right, although a little far fetched it was still believable while being easy to follow. You can make a movie with gods, mutants and assassins without trying to make it "real life" as this trailer attempts, and in my opinion fails. +4 stars for the effort -6 for the idea

So I noticed that there are a lot of people who have never heard of Mortal Kombat before, so I figured I would maybe help you people out. This is awful!!!!!! It has nothing to do, with anything, about MK (Mortal Kombat). Not only that but the acting already looks awful and that's just from what you can see in the 8 minute clip. I can't wait to see Sub-Zero all realistic, he will probably be walking around with a pack on his back throwing dry ice on people, such a bad ass. Is Shang Tsung going to just be Buffalo Bill and instead of taking souls he will just wear there skin? Anyone notice that Liu Kang's name doesn't seem to be anywhere? Not that the biggest character of the entire history of MK is needed, but don't worry Raiden was left out too. For those of you who have actually played the games (everyone who hates this film) imagine if they took out everything unrealistic about it, like the cool fatalities, and every fun ability the different characters have and you would be left with just punch, kick, grapple. No one would play it! So I guess they will be getting rid of the gods that play a huge part in MK, also It can't be held in Outworld anymore, and since it's not a tournament to save earth from Shang Tsung or Shao-Kahn what is the purpose of all this crap? This film makes me mad because I have been looking forward to it for years now since it was rumored on a MK fan site they were starting to look for actors to play the parts. Also in the clip where Baraka fights Cage why doesn't he just use his swords he has attached to his arms? It's like "Oh Crap! I completely forgot I did that to myself, I should just cut his head off." The only thing that this movie did was steal the names from one of the greatest games ever and put it into some low budget film with bad acting and call it Mortal Kombat....

Being that this is a short film, I think that this is hands down the coolest MK movie out. The only thing that annoys me is that there is no Lui Kang but I can deal with that. What the people that made this short film did was awesome and I really hope that it gets made into a full length movie. There aren't any supernatural elements in this flick yet and there is no mention of out-world by any means, however, that doesn't mean that they aren't there. Keep in mind this is a short film and there is a possibility that it's going to be made into a full length film, if that happens then I hope they add the supernatural element in there and bring up out-world in someway but I think this film is tits
