The Sea Inside is about Spaniard Ramón Sampedro, who fought a 30-year campaign to win the right to end his life with dignity. It is the story of Ramón’s relationships with two women: Julia a lawyer who supports his cause, and Rosa, a local woman who wants to convince him that life is worth living.

This story has more twists and turns than a second-rate soap opera.

I didn’t really have many expectations going into the movie (good or bad), but I actually really enjoyed it. I really liked the characters and the banter between them.

Let me be very fair here, this is not the best movie in my opinion. But, this movie is fun, it has purpose and is very enjoyable to watch.

You know, I usually try my best to feel any interest for the movie I'm watching. However, "Mar adentro" simply couldn't keep me entertained for more than an hour; first, I feel it's too monotone, it's just Ramon talking about random stuff all the time. Second, there isn't a single likable character for you to be connected with. I agree that the subject is interesting and provocative, but this film is, sadly, bad executed. I don't know if it's director's fault, but it seems to be that the writer is the guilty one. I must admit I left this movie before it reached one hour, since I couldn't feel any interest to what could happen next-- and that's a rare thing that I do. So, in conclusion and in my point of view, "Mar Adentro" is a badly executed movie with a good subject, that's why I dislike it. Please don't hate on me.

This is truly a masterpiece. Although it may deal with a rather tabooed topic by most people (euthanasia) it really is worth watching. The real reason I wanted to watch this is that I wanted to broaden my horizon of Foreign films away from Scandanavian cinema (which some of those are hidden gems too) so I decided to look up countries of which I have seen a film of theirs before (in this case Spain) and found this. The plot is that a quadriplegic by the name of Ramon Sampredo has fought for almost 30 years to die. This basically is the last few months of his life. It may not seem like much but the execution is brilliant. The dialogue of this movie is really intelligent. I was impressed with the writing of this movie. So one expectation I'll say to have is strong dialogue, because in that sense it will be fulfilled.I will recommend this movie to anybody who wants to see a well made drama movie, regardless of how you feel about euthanasia.

the definition of the great movie for me is the one that doesn't have the absolute "right" or "wrong" side, it should be the one that stick in that gray area. The movie that makes you think or question about life itself..For me, this kind of movie experience is profoundly rewarding, a question about the choice you make in your life, a question about your life existence, a question about the life itself.this is my first Javier bardem's movie and i'm sure it wont be the last, he gives such an electrifying, believable, enthralling performance as the real life ramon, yup it's a true life story about the person who want to die with a dignity, Life is indeed about a choice.

Javier Barden stars as Ramon Sampedro, a quadriplegic who fought for the right to die for twenty nine years. His lawyer, Julia, suffers from an incurable medical condition supports his choice and fights the legal system with him.Another woman, Rosa, loves him and tries to change Ramon's mind regarding suicide. Bardem is as good as any actor I have ever seen and this performance ranks with his Oscar winning role in No Country for Old Men. Ramon's brother Jose and his family make his survival possible, so he feels like he is a burden on them. The court case drags on and on, until he has reached fifty four years of age and a decision is finally reached. There are no easy answers to this moral dilemma, and The Sea Inside doesn't preach to the audience from one side or the other. Love, life, and death are tackled in a deep and insightful way with the great Javier Bardem leading the way.
