I have absolutely never seen anything like this movie before. You have to see this movie.
View MoreI wanted to like it more than I actually did... But much of the humor totally escaped me and I walked out only mildly impressed.
View MoreA lot of perfectly good film show their cards early, establish a unique premise and let the audience explore a topic at a leisurely pace, without much in terms of surprise. this film is not one of those films.
View MoreThe best films of this genre always show a path and provide a takeaway for being a better person.
View MoreThe Stoning of Soraya M is based on a true story where a husband (Ali) wants to get rid of his wife (Soraya) so he could go marry somebody else, so they plot to kill her by throwing stones at her until she dies. The stoning scene is certainly not for the faint of heart, it really disturbed and upset me. I hate the fact that women in the middle east are still being treated like this! And they always go on about how they're doing this for god, god wouldn't have wanted any of this! God wants peace and love. Please watch this movie, it is a must see before you die! Also when you finish watching this, tell your friends about this movie and they'll recommend it to their friends as well! This is a story that deserves to be heard.
View MorePowerful, moving, anger-inducing indictment on mob rule, injustice, modern-day barbarism and religious zealotry and manipulation. The ending might be obvious from the title, but the back story is incredibly powerful. The event itself is brutally graphic, and demonstrates the effect of the irrational behaviour that came before it.Based on a true story, the plot is solid, as is the direction. The performances by the leads - Shohreh Aghdashloo and Mozhan Marno - are excellent.A must-see, but not for the faint-hearted.
View MoreIn 1986, Sahebjam is Parisian journalist who is driving to the border. His car breaks down in a remote desolate village Kupayeh, Iran. He is approached by Zahra (Shohreh Aghdashloo) who tells him about the tyrannical treatment of her niece Soraya by the men in power. The Mullah is a former criminal. His former jailer Ali blackmails him to force Ali's wife Soraya accept being discarded while Ali gets a new wife. Meanwhile Soraya will become the Mullah's temporary wife or a holy whore. Zahra stops the Allah as Soraya reveals that Ali beats her. Ali has made a deal with a rich doctor about to be executed to save his life and marry his 14 year old daughter. This is one depressing, horrific drama. It's like the light of humanity can't penetrate this movie. It's a movie where I want to scream at the screen. The movie is hard to watch which culminates in one of the toughest scenes around. The stoning is scarier than any horror movie. It is shocking and incredibly hard to take. However it's worthwhile to see because simply reading about it doesn't deliver the true brutality.
View More"The Stoning of Soraya", by far is too embarrassing and shameful. I felt deeply sorry for those so called actors and actresses who happened most of them to be Iranian. you just sold your people, your culture and your country for a fist of dollars coming from oil hungry companies who are trying to show a wild image of one of the oldest civilization in earth in order to rob its resources as they did and do in Pakistan, Afghanistan, south America and Arab countries. I would like to congratulate them for doing a job that no Arab, Afghan or Pakistanis dare to do. the countries who are way far strict and fanatic in Islamic rules and this thing happen more often there. but why should western media care as long as the resources are exploited and governments are their puppets? as a person born to an Iranian family, the only thing I share with this movie is the language. I was impressed how someone who was not born in Iran and haven't been even once there, made me so familiar with my country... bravo!
