Good idea lost in the noise

Myron Clemons

A film of deceptively outspoken contemporary relevance, this is cinema at its most alert, alarming and alive.

This is ultimately a movie about the very bad things that can happen when we don't address our unease, when we just try to brush it off, whether that's to fit in or to preserve our self-image.

As far as I'm concerned, this movie rocked. From start to finish, it's a pumped up, energetic, bat sh*t insane ride. An under-appreciated horror classic. Cult status for sure. The family is back with another added loon to the mix, returned home from the Vietnam war, who mixes in perfectly with his crazy brothers. The psychos are all portrayed perfectly, absolutely insane and delightfully erratic, spontaneous and vibrant. The other added joy to this pumped up horror flick is a chainsaw wielding Dennis Hopper descending into lunacy. The characters are superb, each getting a little time to go absolutely insane and break loose all hell. The psychos are all distinct, both visually and character wise, so they don't just feel like rehashes of each other. Livens up the movie. There are a lot of superb scenes in this ranging from moving car chases with Leatherface, to the underground human meat tunnels, to a music room showdown, to a CHAINSAW BATTLE. This movie goes above and beyond to go bigger. However, it ain't better than the original. Since it's a comedy now, it's lost that raw, horror film to it, truly embracing the horror, action comedy that it's labeled itself as. There's nothing wrong with this though as it stands apart from its predecessor, unique and flashy, and I'll be damned if I didn't have a blast watching it.For horror fans, and fans of the first, treat yourself to this cocaine fueled, steroid pumped sequel to the Texas Chainsaw Massacre and have a damn good time. 7.5/10 horrifically fun.

Absolutely dreadful only one of many words to describe this travesty of a "MOVIE".I like the lead actress I have seen her in many films but even she was embarrassing in this film.I also liked Dennis Hopper and he was literally the only character in the entire film I actually liked. The actress playing the lead role was nothing but a screaming, crying, and weak mess up until the end of the film.Spoiler Alert!!!! Hopper was pretty smart up until near the end when he makes one fatal and stupid mistake. Spoiler Alert!!!!!?Leatherface was boring also not the least bit scary and even the violence was more comical then graphic or shocking as it was in the original film. The "comedy" was laughable and felt misplaced making this already nonsensical mind f!*# deranged film feel even more messed up.The ending is hilariously bad and just like most of this film makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. This one should have never even saw the light of day not even Hopper normally reliable could save this one.

I'm almost at a loss for words to describe what a steaming pile TCM2 is. Wow. Can a sequel be any farther in concept, intent and execution as this is from the original TCM (which I rated 9/10)? Others may disagree, but it's not wise to market something as a sequel (as in, a continuation of a story) and then change the game so immensely. Imagine if "Jaws2" was actually a musical, with Roy Scheider tap-dancing thru half the movie. That just doesn't work as a concept. And neither does TCM2 as comedy.Even worse, the comedy isn't funny. It's bad. I mean, terrible. Example: a character literally gets cuts with a chainsaw in his butt, and he says "well at least I don't have to go to the hospital to get my hemorrhoids checked out." Or how about Leatherface engaging in simulated sex with a woman and a chainsaw as his...uh...tool. Um, really? That's not funny, it's just weird and dumb. Incredibly dumb. Now imagine similar stupidity for nearly two hours. So painful to watch.Virtually everything about this is garbage. Plot. Acting. Music. Attempted comedy that is anything but funny. There is a difference between 'comedy' and 'silly.' This goes so far beyond silly it's practically indescribable. And I guess some people enjoy really silly, incredibly stupid films, and that's why they have rated this one a 10. Myself, I ask for a little more than that from a film. The special effects weren't too bad here, so I will recognize those by bumping the rating up from 1 to 2. But that's all it deserves. A wasted two hours I will never get back. 2/10.

In the 1973 original, Sally Hardesty-Enright was the sole survivor. She became catatonic and the police did not find the perpetrators. Thirteen years later, mysterious disappearances continue. Red River Radio DJ Stretch/Vanita Brock (Caroline Williams) gets prank calls from two idiots who get run off the road by the chainsaw welding family. Sally's uncle former cop Boude 'Lefty' Enright (Dennis Hopper) arrives after years of investigation. The original was disturbing and actually scary. There were moments of real originality. This sequel turns the franchise into camp. The thing is that director Tobe Hooper intends for it to be funny. It's not by accident. It's a deliberate act and it's lesser for it. It's full of silliness but it's that funny. In the exchange, the franchise loses all of the horror. It's almost a spoof of the original. The only compelling creepy scene is friend L.G. stumbling around eviscerated. Everything else is camp. Even Leatherface is a love-sick puppy. If you expect a spoof, this may be fun. If you expect something like the original, this may sicken you.
