American tourist Frank meets mysterious British woman Elsie on the train to Venice. Romance seems to bud, but there's more to her than meets the eye.

Absolutely brilliant

Mathilde the Guild

Although I seem to have had higher expectations than I thought, the movie is super entertaining.

It is a whirlwind of delight --- attractive actors, stunning couture, spectacular sets and outrageous parties. It's a feast for the eyes. But what really makes this dramedy work is the acting.

It's simply great fun, a winsome film and an occasionally over-the-top luxury fantasy that never flags.

It seems the entire budget for 'The Tourist' went on recruiting Depp and Jolie, because almost everything else about this $100 million production seems to have been put together with minimal effort. Even Depp and Jolie themselves are a disappointment, with Depp looking bored out of his mind most of the time and Jolie never really taking to her role. Although given the material they were working with, you can't really blame them.Everything about 'The Tourist' is terrible. The plot is plain silly, the characters one dimensional and shallow, and the dialogue between them forced and unnatural. The only positive to speak of is the beautiful Venice setting and scenery, which offers a welcome distraction from what is a truly awful movie all round.

I just reviewed Chaos, and this is much of the same. A great idea with lazy writing by some mentally disabled con artists who stole another idiots money to make this pile of steaming ____ (fill in the blank). OK, so it's entertaining in some ways, BUT to me that's not enough, the plot still has to hold together somehow. And I know all about 'suspension of disbelief', but this is just too much !! WORST OF ALL, the hole came right at the end of the movie, so they really sucked me in !! SO, Depp and Jolie are with the CIA or whomever, Depp is a master thief but has fooled the CIA. The climax comes as the REALLY Bad Guys want Depp to open a safe or they kill Jolie. Thankfully just as he is about to do it, the CIA kills the Bad Guys. Then there's a radio call that the Master Thief guy has been caught. ALL THE CIA AGENTS RUN AWAY AND LEAVE Depp, the real Master Thief, alone with his girl Jolie. With no one around except a bunch of dead guys in an expensive hotel suite, not even the manager has come around, Depp opens the safe and they run away with the money, AND give the 'finger' to the obsessed agent pursuing them.... YEAH, OK, MAKES SENSE TO ME ! d-OH ...

For a movie that is completely based around its so-called 'twist', this movie ought to have tried harder to stop people guessing the twist. I think I guessed it almost as soon as the movie started. There is a heavyweight cast going through the motions in possible the most formulaic script ever, but the whole time it was completely obvious where it was going, which made suspending my disbelief impossible.Looks like the Devil claimed Johnny Depp's talent from him during the filming of The Ninth Gate. He hasn't done anything good since. As for Jolie, she shows no emotion during the whole film, and could easily be swapped out for any of the 150 go-to 'good looking' actresses. Farcical.
