Charming and brutal
While it doesn't offer any answers, it both thrills and makes you think.

The movie really just wants to entertain people.
There's enough of this movie to compel you to venture into it's bizarre premise, but not enough to satisfy you with bizarre things to justify sitting through it all in one sitting. I like bad movies that are fun, the Room, Troll 2. This is not one of those movies. It's an oddity to be sure, but a painful, slow, and awkward oddity that just makes you feel like you wasted a part of your life somehow. It's not bad enough to be funny and it isn't good enough to transcend the odd premise it has going against it.Dwarfs, little people... or whatever the politically correct term is nowadays deserves a better movie to help overcome prejudice people have towards them, but this is a really bad attempt at tackling that topic.Game of Thrones is actually much better at that point of making you sympathize with small people, this just makes you want to have a lobotomy to get rid of the headache you'll have.
View MoreGary Oldman is a brilliant actor sure, but whoever cast him as a dwarf amongst other real life dwarfs should have their head examined. If you're making a movie about dwarfism (such as is the case here), for God's sake cast a REAL dwarf in the title role! Anything less is just an insult to little people and anybody who watches this sad excuse for a film.In addition, the script and characters frequently come off very contrived, the direction and pacing are sloppy at best, and the melodrama and lack of chemistry do not help this train wreck make it to the station.
View MoreOK, so I read that Matt and Kate were in it so I was like, Super-dee-duper! That's all I read before I hit "play" on my Netflix. It was a deeper, more satisfying movie than I expected. Gary Oldman is one of my favorite actors; he never fails to impress me, I don't think I've ever seen anything with him that I didn't love.I thought the movie dealt sensitively and honestly with struggling to accept differences. It didn't patronize people with disabilities, or judge them as less than full members of society. I thought the movie also went some distance in providing information about some of the difficulties, both social and medical, that many people with Dwarfism have.A great movie with a soul. And Matt in his underwear. Nice.
