Timmy Taylor and his two friends, Stevie and Buddy capture escaped convict Carl Banks (Jim Varney) and hold him hostage in their treehouse over the weekend so that Timmy can use Carl as his current event project at school on Monday. It’s an especially fun movie from a director and cast who are clearly having a good time allowing themselves to let loose.

This movie was so-so. It had it's moments, but wasn't the greatest.

If your a fan of Jim Varney for portraying his role as Ernest P. Worrell, then you'll probably will remember this film back when I first seen on the Disney Channel back in the late 90s to early 2000s. for me this is probably one of the funniest family films ever since it's obscured and probably forgotten, the story is kinda okay in my opinion, the characters are probably fair along with the story and the fart jokes are not that great compared to the ones in Blazing Saddles; Caddyshack and the Nutty Professor remake with Eddie Murphy since they're quite hilarious in our opinion. Overall this is a family film that many of us remember catching back on the Disney channel and despite it being a direct to video movie since for those who are fans of Jim Varney themselves!

This film has a hilarious story, great acting (Jim Varney from the 'Earnest' films makes a major character appearance, Louan Gideon, who was Danielle Atron on The Secret World of Alex Mack plays the role of Mrs. Stevens, etc.), and it does have some genuinely funny jokes. The story was really different, the tale of a lazy kid, Timmy, who holds escaped convict Carl hostage to bring to his teacher for a Current Events class - if he fails his project, Mrs. Stevens will place him in summer school, much to the joy of his school principal, Ott "the Snot", a sadistic guy who doesn't seem to like kids at all. However, Timmy doesn't expect to befriend Carl.Overall not a bad kids' film, but all the fart jokes got on my nerves. Those jokes were lame, disgusting and definitely not creative by any stretch of the imagination. Some of the characters were really annoying too, like Buddy (what's the purpose of him other than just to be generally gross?) If all the flatulence jokes were removed, or at least cut down, I would have liked it a lot more.

I am such a fan of Jim Varney's and watch everything he's been in. 'Treehouse Hostage' is a great family film. It is like the modern day version of 'The Boy who cried Wolf'. When you play pranks and make up wild stories all the time, don't expect people to believe you when you tell the truth. Case in point, Timmy has an overactive imagination which gets him into trouble with his parents, teachers, cops and the principal. So when escaped counterfeiter, Carl Banks, played by Varney, ends up in the boys'(Timmy, Stevie and Buddy's) security system of their tree house, no one believes him even when tells his dad and the police. Along the way, they befriend Carl, who turns out to actually be a really nice guy. This DVD gets regular use in my home. It's a clean movie that's kid friendly for all ages. Watch with your kids. It's funny and sometimes serious and definitely heartfelt, thanks to Varney's dramatic scene in the tree house when he was telling the boys how he got mixed up with counterfeiters. Varney's talents are sorely missed.

I like this movie and I thought that this was the best Jim Varney movie yet I've seen. I liked this movie SO much that I asked for it for Christmas and watched it over and over and over again and yet I still like it. My favorite part is the tree house Court scene and when Carl escapes. I thought that both of those scenes were absolutely hilarious. Don't ask me how I got to be A Treehouse hostage fan. It's Jim Varney. I don't know how I got a Jim Varney fan I'm glad to be a fan of Jim Varney and all of his movies. I will still like this movie for a very long time and nothing will take that away from me. And I really mean that.
