Far from Perfect, Far from Terrible

PiraBit

if their story seems completely bonkers, almost like a feverish work of fiction, you ain't heard nothing yet.

Super-Slick, Double-Starred Action Flick. A Kung-Fu Wannabee that Lacks the Grit and Fun of Hong Kong Movies and is Poorly Directed by a Graduate of the Music-Video World of Hyper-Editing, Close-Ups and Hysterical Hubris that Believes that Gloss is Great and Alternating between Fast and Slow Scenes is Fantastic Filmmaking. It Squanders the Opportunity to Capitalize on the Box-Office and Fanboy Appeal of Jet Li and Jason Statham. So much so that it Borders on the Blasphemous. They have Exactly two Scenes Together. One Talking, One Fighting. Neither are Remarkable in any way.The Revenge Story is Standard Stuff with a Bloated Plot about a Yakuza/Triad War with Our Two Anti-Heroes bouncing in and out of the Story between a lot of Serious Talk and Melodramatics about Tradition, Family, Alliances, and Bullet Casings. Not an Awful Movie but a Monumental Waste of Money and Kick-Butt Talent. Worth a Watch for Fans of the Stars but is Overall Disappointing.

I like jason statham and jet li so I thought I would watch this film and to be honest this average film is really what to expect. The premise sees an fbi agent on the hunt for an assassin who killed his partner. Jet li plays rogue the assassin and he is easily the most interesting character in this film. He is great in the action scenes bringing a believability to the character. He also develops as the character progresses and his relationship with statham works. Jason statham plays the typical cop in this film but it works for this film because of his performance and the added depth to his character. Unfortunately, none of the other characters in this film have any depth to them and are just filling screen time. The story has a decent revenge plot that is simple but it does work. It also has a great twist towards the end of the film. However, there is cliché mafia things that take up a considerable amount of time and just comes across as boring. The script has no depth to it, the drama for the most part is weak and there isn't any well done humour in the film. The style has some good well done action scenes but the pacing of this film is pretty bad and makes this film drag. Overall this is an average film that is only worth a watch if your a fan of either of the main actors.

Well, it's Jet Li and Jason Statham, seeing their faces on a big film poster entitled "WAR" is basically granting a violent flick. Simply put, you should be expecting some ass-kicking kung-fu scenes, some assassinations and perhaps, a little bit of car chases since this is a 2007 movie.WAR included them all somewhat, and there's only one comment I want to say after all- EVERYTHING IS TERRIBLE. The movie starts with a typical thriller scene, with so many characters speaking in so many languages. (Is that how you define "cultural diversity"?)Then it comes to a couple jump scenes where Jet Li shows up in multiple crime scenes, and Jason Statham decides to get him based on the tragedy happened to his partner. Nothing seems wrong to the plot? Right, but a briefly reminder here, the scenarios above were mostly dialogues, dialogues and more dialogues. That right, we are watching Jet Li and Jason Statham VERBRALLY COMMUNICATING to all kinds of random people for two hours long. If you are the one who enjoys watching Jason Statham yelling at people with his bloody British accent, then you surely will be satisfied. But I am not; either do the most of us who were looking for some actions-based entertainment. And by saying random, I literally MEAN it. Some examples are the cool-looking agent who claims to be a sniper, the bloody blonde chick who gets nude for no reason, the facial surgeon who seems to know a lot of secrets, and the bad guy's daughter who seems to fight really well. They all act cool enough to have a couple personal lines with the leading characters, and they all seem to be a "big deal"; yet their existences in this movie are totally unnecessary, you can take these characters out of the movie and the story won't change for a single bit. They are so worthless that I couldn't even remember the names of these characters; I actually just found that Devon Aoki was playing as "Kira". Just when we think this movie cannot have more random stuff pop up, they put NINJAS in the movie. So now we have cops with guns, samurais with katana, and ninjas with Shuriken. What comes with it is a car chase in every 10 minutes, there's even one with motorcycles. All in all, this movie is trying really hard to be different than a typical brainless action movie. But it is trying too hard and that ruins everything, not even Jet Li or Jason Statham can save this. Imagine seeing POKEMON randomly pops up out of nowhere in the movie SNOW WHITE, that's how bad and random "WAR" is.
