Wreckage and Rage: Making 'Alien³' Trailers

The creation of the film Alien³ (1992) is covered here in this feature-length documentary in exhaustive detail. Many interviews with the cast and crew give us an idea of how hard of a time David Fincher had creating his first feature film, as well as present us with much information about every element that went into making this film, including how the plot and script changed drastically through filming.

Good story, Not enough for a whole film

Pretty good movie overall. First half was nothing special but it got better as it went along.

Not sure how, but this is easily one of the best movies all summer. Multiple levels of funny, never takes itself seriously, super colorful, and creative.

It's the kind of movie you'll want to see a second time with someone who hasn't seen it yet, to remember what it was like to watch it for the first time.

I didn't like Alien 3, in fact I'd say it's the worst one by a decent margin. This feature length making of documentary fails on nearly every front. The interviews are minimal and quite frankly with the wrong people. There is very little on the sfx or making of stories and tales. The entire thing in fact has very little content. I know that sound strange considering its hefty runtime but it drags, repeats itself and doesn't cover many of the essential things these types of documentaries generally do.For the fans and the fans alone. The Good:Couple of interesting bits nestled away deepThe Bad:So boringPoorly constructedDoesn't follow the tried & tested formulaThings I Learnt From This Movie:The general vibe I got was they sabotaged it from the outset and knew it was going to fail

"I think that they knew that I had given my blood and my every milliliter of my sweat trying to make it work, but I guess that I just wasn't clever enough to come up with something that would really blow everybody away and be something completely different.""It was just set up wrong to begin with. It was a very sort of bad period for us, in this film, because we were fighting a losing battle all the time."This is how this documentary starts out; an honest and painful admission of failure. I found it thoroughly refreshing, and it went a long way towards endearing the third film which this documents, to the Fiend. This Making Of documentary is every bit as informative and inclusive as are the first two; more so, even, in that it goes to great pains to explain exactly... what went wrong. By the time it was done, I was in a much better frame of mind, where Alien 3 is concerned, because when I started this run of reviews, I seriously hated this installment, where now, I give it a 6.2/10. That's a good three point jump from where I initially had it rated. This is a wonderful experience which I highly recommend to anyone who loves this franchise. It rates a 10/10 on the Documentary Scale from...the Fiend :.

All DVD's should come with extras as exhausting as the ones in the new ALIEN QUADRILOGY box set. When ALIEN 3 first came out, I was disappointed with it. Later, as I was able to ween myself off of the expectations James Cameron's relentless ALIENS set up, it became a favorite of mine. This documentary goes to great lengths not to just dissect the movie, but also to show just what film studios typically put creative people through. We get interviews with Michael Biehn, detailing how upset he was at the killing off of his character. We get a look, in story boards, at an abandoned version of the film that was larger in scope. And we see some of the studio ineptitude that prevented the film from being all it could be. That David Fincher could nonetheless create a film as uncompromising as he did is a true testament to his talent. I loved this!
