Zarafa Trailers

Inspired by the true story of the first giraffe to visit France, Zarafa is a sumptuously animated and stirring adventure, and a throwback to a bygone era of hand-drawn animation and epic storytelling set among sweeping CinemaScope vistas of parched desert, wind-swept mountains and open skies. Under the cover of darkness a small boy, Maki, loosens the shackles that bind him and escapes into the desert night. Pursued by slavers across the moon-lit savannah, Maki meets Zarafa, a baby giraffe – and an orphan, just like him – as well as the nomad Hassan, Prince of the Desert. Hassan takes them to Alexandria for an audience with the Pasha of Egypt, who orders him to deliver the exotic animal as a gift to King Charles of France.

It’s an especially fun movie from a director and cast who are clearly having a good time allowing themselves to let loose.

I loved the animations , colors & the variety of cultural references , it's visually appealing & the Story has good theme referencing Slavery, honesty & loyalty but the killing part of this Feature animation is the historical faults . I find it really annoying & dishonest to disrespect the historical context , and it really degrades the beauty of the movie & hurts the feelings of the citizens of the countries you referenced in the Movie . Besides the distortion of history in the mind of the young or even the adult who doesn't necessarily have an idea about history of those areas of the world !

It's hard for me to review this film. As a film, devoided of it's historical connection, I would rate it as 7, but in the context of it as a historical film I would give it a 5. The animations are fresh and beautiful and the two main characters, the boy Maki and the Bedouin Hassan, are interesting and cute in their relationship to the animals. The other characters are not really explored much and parts of them, like the Greek pirates, could easily have been done without with no significant significance for the film. Either that, or they should have had more character exploration. The story is cute and together with the animation makes it worth seeing even if it isn't a real masterpiece.BUT it is a historical film. It is based, or at least it claims to be, on a real story and some of the characters are based closely upon the real people involved in the story. But the main part of the story could hardly have been more wrong unless they made it about moving a giraffe from France to Egypt or Nubian. The film claims that the giraffe is gifted to the french king in order to attain support for Egypt's war against Turkey. BUT the real story is the other way around. Egypt was not at war with Turkey, it was a part of the Ottoman Empire which were based in Turkey! Egypt, was a vassal state and as such was at war the Greek revolutionaries (like the pirates in the film) that fought for independence from the Ottomans. The gift to France was not to gain their alliance against Turkey, but to get them to stop their support for the Greeks! France and Egypt was at war as they were on different sides in this Greek War of Independence! How could you get the story so opposite? They might have it confused with another story about a giraffe in Florence which might have been gifted by the Sultan of Egypt in order to attain support in his war against the Turks from the Medici family who ruled Florence. But this happened more than 300 years before! I don't demand that a historical film should be 100% precise, but could it please just not turn the main story 180 degrees around? There are lots of other historical mistakes in the film that I don't complain about, but did they even use 1 minute on checking up on the story before they maid it? There should be limits to what can be accepted of a historical film before it influence the review and this film has crossed that line in the extreme by showing off an embarrassing level of ignorance and stupidity.

it is the easy manner to define it. because it is far by the ordinary contemporary animation. because it reminds themes and tricks and dreams from the childhood. because it is a nice story and the right manner to trip in the gardens of a lost time, using the tools of fairy tale but giving more than another one. touching and seductive and cool. one of films about more values and a great story about friendship. it could be enough for joy, reflect and redefine the every day problems. because, in same measure, it is a story about freedom. and this small detail does it irresistible. for the sensitivity and the right rhythm to present it. for the lovely characters and for the clash between civilizations. so, a letter from the past. each word is real essential.

nice story, nice animation. a fairy story of old fashion. and delicate air of childhood in circle of few adventures, subtle lesson, good humor, beautiful drawing and wind of feelings. at first sigh, it is gesture of courage to present a film without ordinaries spices. but, it is case it is just perfect option.because it represents a little travel in past. return to classic manner to say a perfect story. it is basic virtue. in same time, it is an Arabian nights page. and admirable resurrection of old wise teller image. I do not know it is impressive or only exercise to attract public. for me, it is way for extraordinary memories. frame, soul and skin of an age. nothing else. and , in the time of blockbusters, a drop of precious flavor. or only window to basic values of each society.
