78/100 Just like the hero is always playing a game between control and loss of control, the play constantly swings between tragedy and comedy. In the first act, the control is still there, but in the later stage, comedy gradually wins over tragedy due to the dull story (of course, there are some bright points, such as slapping the body). It is really a "stupid people are lucky" story. Perhaps what the author wants to express is just like the song of the same title, which is the theme of metaphorical escape from the depressed life, but the protagonist's overly dramatic character attracts attention and weakens the expression of the theme. The lead actor (and writer-director) was amazing, but it didn't find a North American theatrical release, which means it won't be an Oscar contender, but the performance deserves a few independent awards.

Death of mother, divorce, loss of custody of daughter, loss of job. This damn life! It is a bitter irony that his daughter is finally recovered after the accidental death of his ex-wife. Watching his daughter sit next to him at the ballet, he had mixed feelings. At the end, the hero dressed in police uniform danced ballet in front of the coffin. At the end, he put his hands together, which made me burst into tears. Maruko said: Good things always happen when people are alive.

A humanist tour de force that reinvented Alexander Payne's drama and the philosophy of the Coen brothers in the form of absurd performances. In the process of shaping the middle age of diaosi, it is not guided by the usual laying out the suspense of drama and delaying the process of conflict, but makes the character touch the bottom line of embarrassment again and again, and then immediately gives him the moment of introspection. The cut scene is crisp and the main scene is full of luster. The pathos of watching a loser who knows he's trapped in an indestructible container but still chooses to run into the wall is a bonus, because the audience is often self-pitying and unaware that their emotions need to be awakened.

Bittersweet acting burst. After watching it, I realized that while it focused on the men's failed family lives, it was at heart a religious film with protestant overtones. The actor's dramatic monologues throughout the film sound like an exotic sermon from a Protestant preacher, and his ex-wife's gratuitous plight at the end of the film feels like a fatalistic punishment inflicted by God. Provocative, comic and tragic, it's the weirdest surprise American independent film of the year.
