Too much about the plot just didn't add up, the writing was bad, some of the scenes were cringey and awkward,

Excellent characters with emotional depth. My wife, daughter and granddaughter all enjoyed it...and me, too! Very good movie! You won't be disappointed.

You might be wondering why I'd like a show where the main character dies during the course of the show. Well, there are some people who had fathers growing up, but mine died when I was very young. The way the show keeps going after the death of the father is just what my life was. I consider Rory to be a likable character who gets mad at his father's death, just because he died. Like Rory, it is hard to except that there are some parts of life you might not get anymore. But even after someone dies, the show must go on. The daughters of the show still need to be raised. Even if the show didn't last long after Paul's death, it was still a meaningful show in my life. I recommend it to anyone who likes comedy, even though it is very serious at points. I give it a perfect score.

8 Simple Rules for the first season had a lot of promise of being a really good show that they could've easily milked out about 5-7 seasons from the show. But unfortunately the demise of John Ritter put the show in a situation where it would be impossible to succeed.I'll give them credit they made a valiant effort trying to keep the show going. For them it was good luck they had the talented Katey Sagal in the wife role who could be bumped up to the #1 parent role. If they had just an average actress in that role they wouldn't even have been able to get through season 3.As much as they tried to keep the show going the show just wasn't the same without Ritter it just changed the dynamic of the show too much. It was supposed to be about a dad losing his mind trying to keep his daughters under control. But once Ritter passed away they replaced him with James Garner as the grandpa and David Spade as the nephew to Katey's character.

This was a marvelously funny comedy with a great cast. John Ritter and Katey Sagal were perfectly cast as the parents, and the kids were great too. Kaley Cuoco was a good choice to play Bridget, who was sort of a toned-down version of Kelly Bundy from Married with Children. The writing and performances were both first-rate.Sadly, John Ritter died during the series, and it put a damper on things. They had to scramble to change the show and bring in more cast members, and it was obviously an uncomfortable situation, but they handled it well. James Garner was a good addition. It could have lasted longer had Ritter lived.I especially loved it when they brought in Ed O'Neill in a guest spot. That was great.*** out of ****

Now, here is a different point of view from many about this sitcom. John Ritter is truly the main actor of the series, however, his death should not have been reflected in the theme of the series. I have watched John's career from the days of that divine comedy, "Three's Company" for which he deserves his place in history, to his more recent movies like "Stay Tuned".Wouldn't it have been sufficient if the producers had paid tributes to John with a flash of his still picture with his date of birth and death, just like an obituary announcement for say, 10 episodes? There are a number of fine comedians (and the list keeps growing), who could easily have played the role of Paul Hennessy. As I watch the episodes about Paul's death, I simply wonder if I am watching a soap or a sitcom, that sadly defeats the purpose of the show. (That's the reason why I am giving this show only 5 stars against 8 before the exit of John Ritter). When "Three's Company" saw the show continue without Chrissy, (Suzanne Sommers), in quite different circumstances, albeit with another actress with a different name, and above all, in an original style, I don't see why another comedian could not have played the role of the father, Paul, while also even changing the family name of the characters from the Hennessy family to something else. I await the arrival of "Just Shoot Me" 's David Spade in later episodes, who will no doubt bring humor back up to standard. Me? I mainly watch the show to see the what the three lovely ladies are up to next.
