The Worst Film Ever
There are moments that feel comical, some horrific, and some downright inspiring but the tonal shifts hardly matter as the end results come to a film that's perfect for this time.
View MoreIt is neither dumb nor smart enough to be fun, and spends way too much time with its boring human characters.
View MoreIt's a movie as timely as it is provocative and amazingly, for much of its running time, it is weirdly funny.
View MoreWhen I read the summary for the story for Big Love I was not interested at all. Took a year and a half to get through the first few episodes. Finally though somewhere approaching the middle of season 1 it started to catch my interest as I became familiar with the characters and the serious dysfunction that they had and evolved quite interestingly throughout the series. Bill P. as the lead was very good. It was easy to see why his love for his first wife Barb remained the strongest throughout the show as they were the only ones not so damaged and immature that he could have an intellectual relationship with her as well as physical. Nicki just made me want to smack her about every third show as she started out self centered, mean, and always criticizing others for her faults. How Bill forgave her for repeatedly breaking basic vows was beyond me, but hating her was part of the fun of the show. Margene was a kid and never seemed to grow up until the final when they shocked me by wrapping things up by offing Bill by a emotional neighbor. All in all the show was much better than I expected and did bring to my attention some things I wasn't aware of. Bottom line, if you can get by some of the ludicrous oversights in the story's gaps, it is an entertaining show even if I wanted to slap every character at some point for being so self centered and blind to the hypocrisy of their actions at the time.
View MoreThis "controversial" series has been around Australian TV for a while but I decided to have a look at it from episode one only this week. After quickly establishing that the lead character has three wives we soon find him in bed with one then another. The slightly pained look on actor Bill Paxton's face as he looks down towards his "mid-section" leads us to believe that he is unable to obtain or sustain an erection. The thought crosses my mind that if he removed his wife's top and fondled her breasts it may assist him to become aroused but as this level of realism is apparently beyond the producers of "Big Love" I switch off.If I wanted to watch porn I can find plenty of it but if "Big Love" can't show nudity they shouldn't feature scenes of married love done in such a ridiculously unrealistic way with the husband naked and the wife almost fully clothed!
View MoreSurprisingly boring for an HBO series. It appears HBO thought polygamy and the archaic mormon religious practices would be more appealing to men. The plot is extremely boring. This guy is a polygamist and has a home improvement business. Take a ride around Salt Lake City and you find this is still completely true. There are large compounds with several houses and one large brick wall or fence. All the plots displayed in the show are true. Warren Jeffs showed the world people like the fictional character Roman Grant is actually not fictional and completely true. The show has no change in plot and is totally boring!!!! HBO cancel the thing and work on something new! If "Big Love" is all HBO has to offer I think they jumped the shark!!!!!!! What hapend to shows like The Sopranos and Curb Your Enthusiasm??? Now HBO provides Entourage which "jumped the shark" last year and Big Love????????
View MoreI've seen all episodes, awesome show, i always love HBO shows. Great Plots, lovable characters and loads of scandal. It seems to get better with episodes. I thought i wouldn't like it cause of the negative spin on polygamy in real life. But they make Big Love easy to love. The acting is fantastic i love Chloe her acting is on point for the character she is a commanding presence in the show, and Margene is so bubbly and light hearted brings a innocence to adult life....Bill Paxton really delivers, he makes a great family man with the edgy twist. And last but not least the first wife Barb is a great actress, and i love her role she really suits the first wife position. All of them together including children make the series a hit. With now being in the third season i could definitely see this series lasting for years to come. If anyone i looking for that hooked on that series this is definitely it.
