Some things I liked some I did not.
Overrated and overhyped
Great movie! If you want to be entertained and have a few good laughs, see this movie. The music is also very good,
View MoreStory: It's very simple but honestly that is fine.
9-10 for acting/music -4 for holes/conveniences/inconsistenciesEntertaining. Well played. I laughed and cried watching this series, but...One must suspend one's disbelief really high to keep watching. Not just because it's a fantasy/supernatural thriller, but because of plot holes, inconsistencies, and conveniences that leaves one's head scratching. And the ending is the biggest head scratcher of all. It made me wonder what was the whole point*Spoilers below**Major plot holes/conveniences 1. Why didn't she see the shadow inside her dad the previous 444? 2. Why didn't she see the shadow inside Leo (revealed to be have been taken over since the beginning by 444's grim reaper fugitive partner)? 3. At first, I thought that not seeing the shadow inside Moo-Gang was a plot convenience. But when it was reveled that 444/Joon was inside the body of his brother which had part of his original body, his heart (hence why he couldn't get out of the body) could perhaps explain why no shadow was visible.Plot inconsistencies 444 allegedly erased from existence coming back to pick up her soul after she lived a long alternate life, and then she suddenly remembers him? That's contradicting their own plot. This connection supposedly NEVER happened. No suspension of disbelief can give that ending any sense. These flaws aside, still enjoyed most of it.
View MoreI started watching this series on Netflix when I had a bout of the flu and was bed bound and running out of things to watch. Someone from a horror group I belong to recommended it. I first thought it was Japanese but realized the words I was reading in the subtitles were not matching the limited Japanese I knew. After a bit I realized It was a Korean show. If you don't mind subtitles I highly recommend this show and I really hope it continues. It has it all but, mostly is a crime drama, with action, fantasy, and romance, so really right up there on my genre list. I am sad that there are only a couple episodes left for me to watch and I may not get any more of this show. The acting is great aside from some of the kinda cheesy moments. The writing is superb. I love the story and I want more. I sure hope we get a season 2. I would definitely watch it!!!!
View MoreI almost bailed on this, due to impressions from the first episode. Some of that has been alluded to by at least one other reviewer. One set of characters (no spoilers here) are a squad of police detectives who are somewhat inept, but in the first episode, that is a bit overdone, coming off a bit too much like "slapstick comedy, gone very, very wrong". It just seemed a bit too childish. But, based upon the IMDB reviews, and score, I went ahead and watched the next episode, which led to me quickly being addicted. There are just a continuous set of "hooks" (revelations) that keep you wondering what is going to happen next, and those are all part of a larger story that is woven together, revelation by revelation.Although there are a handful of core characters, this is one of those stories where you have to pay close attention, as the underlying story is a much larger canvas than is obvious up front, and as more details are revealed, and events from different timeframes are woven into the story, there are a lot of "things" to keep track of (both people and events). Certainly, it works better, IMHO, to be able to watch the series in a shorter timeframe (e.g. binge-watching it in chunks), just because it has so much going on.It is the fact that most of the ongoing revelations are not so much "adding pieces to the puzzle", as they are "turning the puzzle on its head", that makes it so interesting. Those regular "twists" are also not unrealistic, i.e. (IMHO) they aren't just ridiculous, unlikely plot devices. There are often flashbacks that show events as they happen, to further weave those ever-growing plot elements into the larger story. Again, some of those flashbacks involve the same characters, at different ages, so you need to pay attention in order to tie everything together. (Much as with another really great series, Dark, you can't be sitting on the couch, texting on your phone, while you attempt to watch this, or you will quickly find yourself lost.)Anyway, I'm obviously providing no real details about the story, to avoid any spoilers, but suffice it to say that I believe that anyone how watches the first few episodes, will either find themselves as hooked as I was, OR, they will simply decide that it's not a story that interests them at all. Just don't bail out instantly, after the first episode. Its initial tone is simply not representative of the larger story being told. It's a long journey (some of the episodes are long), but well worth the trip.
View MoreBlack was made available on Netflix and my love for kdrama and thrillers prompted me to give this series a try. I have seen many series that are similar but Black had me blown away. The first episode reeled me in and before I knew it, I had finished this series in less than a week. The suspense, the action, the romance, and the acting was superb. I applaud the writers, producers, and actors for doing an excellent job with this series. I have never felt so many emotions. I'm in desperate need of a season 2 now that it ended. I'm not sure how that will be developed but it would be great to see the actors act again. SSH and Go Ara tugged at my heart. The chemistry was out of this world. It made me hurt for them. What an ill-fated love. I really do wish that the ending wasnt rushed. As a romanticist, I really wanted Black and Haram to be together. How can they deny us of that when the relationship was building up? It was disappointing to have to see that she had forgotten everything and passes away as an old woman. This ending was bittersweet.Maybe, there would be a season 2 to explain more in depth of how Joon became a grim reaper again when he has ceased to exist. And why he is still in the body of Moo Gang. It doesn't feel right. Maybe there shouldn't have been ending. Maybe the ending we saw is just Joon's dream of what haram's life would be like if he never existed but it didn't go as planned. When he had requested that he never existed, it was too late. Haram had jumped and her soul was already collected and he meets her in the underworld but she doesn't remember who he is and from there the series explores the underworld, the life of grim reapers and him trying to bring back her memories. Ahhhhh, I'm too invested. This series has gotten me worked up. I do hope that there is a season 2 with the same characters. Doesn't have to be a sequel, a spin off would be great too. Just keep the same actors! Black wouldn't be Black without the characters. It gave life to the story.I apologize for such a long review but I have to express how excellent this series was. I'm glad that I found this show. It may be confusing at first and the ending may not suffice with many, but overall the show is undeniably one of the best kdramas I have ever watched. I highly recommend watching it before judging based on reviews. Everyone has their own opinion of this show but I can guarantee that this show will live up to your expectations. I never write reviews about any shows that I have watched before but this show needed a review to showcase how exceptionally well done it was. PLEASE HAVE A SEASON 2!
