View MoreA film of deceptively outspoken contemporary relevance, this is cinema at its most alert, alarming and alive.
View MoreRemember Bella Ramsey play Lady Mormont yeah could cast any spell she liked, it would be one that instantly tidied her room. But that is where her similarities with most 13-year-olds ends. Now the talented teenager is set to cast a spell over children too as Mildred Hubble in the co-production between the BBC, Netflix and German broadcaster ZDF of a lavish new adaption of The Worst Witch. The magical new version of Jill Murphy's series of books about Miss Cackle's Academy for Witches will be broadcast as 12 episodes starting on 11 January on CBBC and will then stream on Netflix. The tv series of witches collaboration between CBBC, Netflix and ZDF has raised budget for viewers spend on children's television programmes. Like many British tv show Doctor Who team show more connection with Worst Witch with special effects designation in witch school set in a castle to rival Hogwarts, some may compare it with Harry Potter. Witches are not Harry Potter for girls because girls like Harry Potter as well. Anyone can watch The Worst Witch - it's quite a versatile programme, even though most of the cast are female. Mildred Hubble is a witch for everyone. including boys can watch it too. If the trajectory of the stars of previous series of The Worst Witch is anything are to go well beyond girls teens. The last time there was a TV adaptation of the books, Felicity Jones, currently finding fame in the lead role of the Star Wars offshoot Rogue One, played Mildred's nemesis, Ethel Hallow. Ramsey has watched that version but describes the new version as "quite different". According to fan, I kind a of smack sometime her off in plot story backgrounds related to witches weaker and pointless almost unclearly frustrated and pissed me off but yet praised Mildred's extreme pluckiness and usefulness in whole series. The character analysis of Mildred is very clumsy and dimwitted; brave, warm and funny. Her character is very resemblance to Dorothy Gale, Pippi Longstocking, Sailormoon and Doraemon's Nobita Nobi. She has two friend s quite counter part of Hermione and Ron; Enid and Maud. To fair, Mildred's friends cats different in version modern from 1970s; Enid is black and Maud is geeker than both same characters were Caucasian casts. I love the staffs; Hardbroom, Hallow sisters, head mistresses and the mom on Hubble. THe witch tv serie inspire more Ghibli's animation film in witches power; Kiki the Delivery Service and Mary the Witch Flower. It is a great tv series to laugh off and poke fun!!!!
View MoreI'm a 44 year old father of 5. This is a great show so far. It's very kid and family friendly. As somebody else review said it does remind me a lot of Harry Potter but The Worst Witch was first & much more original than Harry Potter. I hope it continues for several season. It is very good for kids now and it will be very good for kids in the future. In the next several years anyway.
View MoreGrowing up I watched the 1998 series and absolutely loved it. When I saw this on Netflix the other day I was taken back to my childhood and decided to give it a go. At first I was reluctant because I had high standards of the 1998 version, but I was pleasantly surprised! The girls are very good actresses even if it seems to be a lower budget show. Definitely a good alternative for younger kids to watch before watching Harry Potter, which I also love. Hope they continue the show!
View MoreQuite a nice story overall as it is able to differentiate itself from other magic schools, however, I find it annoying how little the characters learn from their mistakes between each episode. Even children are able to learn from past mistakes and alter their future decisions based on them, but not here. Also, the administration if this school is grossly negligent, often brushing off serious crimes that are akin to attempted murder. Either make the punishments fit the crime or tone down the seriousness of the arguments between characters.
