Gripping story with well-crafted characters
This is a must-see and one of the best documentaries - and films - of this year.
View MoreIt’s fine. It's literally the definition of a fine movie. You’ve seen it before, you know every beat and outcome before the characters even do. Only question is how much escapism you’re looking for.
View MoreIt's a movie as timely as it is provocative and amazingly, for much of its running time, it is weirdly funny.
View MoreI'll start by honestly admitting, I thought the sitcom genre was done for. While I still like 2 and 1/2 Men,the joke is wearing thin. "Til death never really has found an audience. "Christine" w/ Julia Louis Dreyfuss is the best of these three but needs a better time slot.I also just don't get into "comedies" with no audience. Like "The Office" & "Earl". I grew up with shows "filmed/taped before a live audience,so I guess I'm spoiled that way. Until Sunday Sept. 26th,I thought it was all over."Brothers" was funny from start to finish and that goes for both the pilot and second episode. It's great to see actor Carl Weathers take a comedic turn in acting,he was not just funny but his character is also just very off-beat. He's a football coach. The mother is what a sitcom mother should be,funny at the right time and serious when called for. The two brothers get along like brothers do in real life but with that over the top sitcom sibling rivalry.Darryl "Chill" Mitchell, who was great in the 90s sitcom "The John Larroquette Show",is even better here. It's great to see him back on TV. (He dropped the "Chill" for awhile but it's back.)The plot is this,a couple that has been married for 39 years, ends up having to take back in their two grown sons. The eldest son is a pro-ball player whose been embezzled out of millions by his manager. He had bought his parents the home they now live in and now he needs a place to live. The younger brother (Darryl "Chill") is wheel chair bound after getting hit by a drunk driver. He blames his brother for this for not coming to pick him up that night after calling him. Despite being in a chair,he still has the ability to take his brother's ego down a few pegs. The main story is about getting proper ground rules set so everyone can get along now that they have to live together again. The brothers aren't into the idea of rules seeing as how they're both in their 30s.Show # 2 is the time honored "husband forgot wife's anniversary plot". It's done very well and was also very funny. In the same show Mom & Dad compete against their sons in bowling. I'm very hopeful that this show will live up to the comedy these two episodes succeeded at giving. There's no stereo-types here, the characters are funny without being clowns and have the extra bonus of having real feelings and emotions, without getting sappy about it. 10 stars and a standing ovation for what so far,is the best sitcom I've seen in a long time. (END)(Edit : Cancelled but still better than most of TV at that time.)
