A film of deceptively outspoken contemporary relevance, this is cinema at its most alert, alarming and alive.

The joyful confection is coated in a sparkly gloss, bright enough to gleam from the darkest, most cynical corners.

I didn't know any thing about Australia's discrimination towards its native people. OK, point taken. Other than that, pretty dumb simplistic plot, the supernatural element is far from genuine or interesting, it feels like something that you have seen in hundreds of low-level movies/TV shows. (native people and magical things!) Casting actors/actresses who somehow look exotic is intolerable specially when the acting is unbelievably bad, some highschoolers with a little bit experience in drama class could have pulled it off much better. I wonder if anyone can enjoy this show other than teenagers who don't understand the difference between good and bad TV.

First IMDb review. Sick of shows plagiarising other shows. This is a copy of The Almighty Johnsons, a great show from New Zealand; but modified to fit some kind of Australian theme and failing miserably. The Almighty Johnsons was a brilliant show. This copies it all the way to the ways in which the powers are revealed, and even the 'Hairies'.Pathetic.For those who would like to see what this show could have been, I suggest you watch The Mighty Johnsons.Shows that are poor, rehashed copies out for f other shows, should be singled out for what they are.Viewers have a right to know that there's another show out there, that has all the qualities that this copy attempts to realise and pretends to have conceived.

I have been watching this new series on line and I have to say that it is a series not for the faint hearted. Shades of our own history and that of all indigenous groups. Set in a not so future Australia it reveals our past and our potential future. Having watched the fist episode I was ready to drop it as it felt too confronting. I could feel shiftings inside of me as I squirmed under the pressure of the past.Though it actually hurt to watch at some points,I remained, as something of its depth calls to the deep we walk with thanks to our ancestors. There is joy, bigotry, faith, fear, betrayal, wonder and anger. Not sure how I will process it in the next few weeks but I do know that I will be better and wiser for choosing to stay despite the revelatory painful awakenings . We have not traveled as far as we think we have. 'Cleverman', a production that is already under my skin.

Cleverman mind-numbingly misses the mark. The plot travels slower than a snail through jelly but somehow, over six episodes there is still no character development or appeal to the main players. The acting is so mono-tone and wooden, staying focused on an entire episode is impossible. The dialogue is painful. "Hairies", I mean, come on, seriously?I saw someone mention Game of Thrones – I'd have to say no way do the women in Game of Thrones have as little agency as this. Seriously, everywhere but Australia they proactively stopped making programs with this sort of message in the 1980s. Take each episode of this and make a list in one column of all the crappy things that happen to the helpless women – including things like being cheated on, being lied to by a far more powerful partner, being shut out and ignored, being treated like a sperm dumpster, being shoved around, being forced into prostitution, being raped, being shot in the gut, or being shot in the head - then in a second column add all the things that actually happen in the plot, it is such an overt subtext. Not worth the time it took me to write this review.
