Best movie of this year hands down!
Very interesting film. Was caught on the premise when seeing the trailer but unsure as to what the outcome would be for the showing. As it turns out, it was a very good film.
View MoreIt isn't all that great, actually. Really cheesy and very predicable of how certain scenes are gonna turn play out. However, I guess that's the charm of it all, because I would consider this one of my guilty pleasures.
View MoreThe movie turns out to be a little better than the average. Starting from a romantic formula often seen in the cinema, it ends in the most predictable (and somewhat bland) way.
View MoreReliving the tale of the legendary Flash Gordon, Eric Johnson takes on the duty of our beloved hero. A role that suits him with his goofy charming look. I'll skip the story, many other have already pointed it out so I head into the other details. It's obvious that the creator doesn't take Flash Gordon seriously, but instead showing a huge passion and love for the cult rated classic from 1980. Most notable is the awkward directing, it looks and feels like a 80's show with the picture quality of today in which I find hilarious and entertaining and the story is basically based of the original 80's film feature stretched out into a full season.I recommend for all sci-fi fans with a sense of humor or fans of series like Xena, Hercules and other adventurous B-shows to give the show a try. If you're looking for a show with a deep storyline, good directing and high budget... Look somewhere else :)
View MoreI love comic-books and fantasy since I had age to love something. And Flash Gordon is one of my favorite characters. I loved all incarnations of the character, from Alex Raymond's first take, with it's futurist medieval spirit, to Dan Barry's iconic futuristic sci-fi (and McRaboy, Dan Jurgens, Al Williamson...)I understand some modernizing stuff for this new version, Flash is not a 1934 hero anymore, but I have to admit that when I saw that Ming...(He looks like Flash!), I didn't feel I was ready for that.Next thing I saw was that this is indeed a "small" series, it looks like television, not like other series like Lost, Galactica, which are really like big budget movies. We are not used to this kind of TV series today, we need to see small blockbuster movies, and Flash Gordon is not that kind of product. This budget issues determine the story/plot possibilities, so plots and stories will be really affected by budget limitations. It has happened before, Stargate SG. 1 had a very small firsts seasons with small budgets, and look at the Stargate franchise now. Remember Star Trek Next Generation's pilot "Encounter at Far Point"? I think it's still the worst TV pilot (in all sense) I have seen in my life, and now look at "All The Good Things..." (series finale), different isn't it? Sometimes TV improves year after year. We should give Flash Gordon a chance, there are good things in it, the lead cast is OK, the effort in modernizing the myth...I think it's getting better as season goes on. With a bit of patience, we could be watching an awesome science fiction series sooner than we think.
View MoreI DON'T THINK ANYTHING HERE WOULD QUALIFY AS A 'SPOILER BUT ... There is just something about this show that make me feel like it should be shown on the Saturday morning slot when all the kids shows are on. Of course then we wouldn't get to see the good looking women like Dale Arden, and Baylin, etc., in scantily clad outfits. They, and the character Rankle (Jonathan Walker) are the only reason I watch the show if I watch it at all. There is just something about the show that has a non-adult quality to it. But that is just me. Others may not feel that way. If it was more 'tongue n' cheek' I could understand it but I don't get that sense to it. As for the star, Flash Gordon/Eric Johnson, I find his character in this show as being 'weak.' He is just not believable as Flash. I see him more as a pretty boy with a nose job and not the strong masculine Flash I'd expect. I don't mean to be cruel but that is the impression I get. Perhaps with a better director and better writers my perception of him in this role would be different.
View MoreI watched the pilot and, frankly, thought this series was plain bad. HOWEVER a funny thing happened over the months. Around October I tuned back in with a friend to show them how weak a show "Flash" was...turns out it was much better. Still not fantastic but watchable. Some of the characters were interesting, the plot was more action oriented and set on Mongo (rather than Flash's Mom's house). It made me re-evaluate it. Another few weeks passed and I tuned in again...turns out the show isn't that bad after all.So the question begs itself, can you write off a show that starts poorly or should it be judged in its entirety? I think, all things considered, the show is better than it was and might well become a quality show. There are a few episodes left in the season so I'm adopting a wait and see attitude. But the most recent episodes are far better than previous ones and I think the show deserves a second season...assuming they up the budget and tweak the writing.
