All of these films share one commonality, that being a kind of emotional center that humanizes a cast of monsters.

The biggest problem with this movie is it’s a little better than you think it might be, which somehow makes it worse. As in, it takes itself a bit too seriously, which makes most of the movie feel kind of dull.

I gave the show 9 out of 10 overall, but the first series should really get only a 7. Much of it was awkward and forced, although still funny. Series 2 had better stories, better jokes, and the cast were more comfortable in their characters' shoes. If series 1 doesn't quite click with you, at least give one episode from series 2 a go.I didn't see Hyperdrive in its original run, so I knew series 2 was the end. I really wish they had continued the show for another couple of years. It felt like it could have gone on quite a bit longer.There seems to be something about sci-fi, whether it's comedy or not, that leads networks to cancel it before it really gets rolling. I don't know why they even give it a chance if they're not going to let it run its course. I suppose we should be thankful for the little we get.

I can still remember the first time I tuned into red Dwarf all those years ago - and thought what on earth is this? But like a lot of really clever and different programs - it quickly grew on me and it's still as funny today no matter how many times I or my kids watch them. The same applies to Hyperdrive. I think it is really clever and funny. The mundanely English subtext and oddball characters are brilliant. Jeffers the rebel who wants so badly to be taken seriously then when he assumes responsibility for the ship, goes completely out of control.York the anal retentive with a military complex - who loves to take control and sets about declaring an "indigo" alert!. Sandstrum as the enhance - a really original bit of SCI FI technology and speaking of which the SGI is really top notch for a comedy series.Seriously Hyperdrive was definitely good enough to justify a third 3rd series. Only a few days ago I got hold of a boxed Season 1&2 DVD set of Hyperdrive.Since then I've been watching this funny, upbeat comedy with it's Star Trek elements, and the best that British comedy can offer (to a German, anyways).I've been looking forward to see a third, fourth and infinite amount of comedy seasons of Hyperdrive, to brighten up my days.And now, to my great disappointment, I learn that the BBC want's to discontinue the series. Apparently not enough Britishers are watching it.I'm very sad to see this great concept go, which, admittedly, has absolutely nothing to do with Red Dwarf. Thank goodness I say, because Hyperdrive is so much better, in its way, although the two comedies can not really be compared.Hyperdrive has more of an alternate concept of a future, comedic, indeed, funny and irreverent.Please let Hyperdrive live! shouts this lone German fan, long before the first dubbed versions of the show made it to the German TV screens. The collective groan of yet to be disappointed German future fans may reverberate back in time forever...Live Hyperdrive, live...!

I've watched three episodes so far on BBC America and love it. The characters are likable and special effects pretty good for a comedy. Along with Doctor Who, Galactica and the Stargate series, this is about all the sci-fi space shows I watch. My wife enjoys all the others but she's not warmed up to Hyperdrive, thinking it is too much "man" humor, in the same vein as Three Stooges comedy which I love but she doesn't. Maybe the show will be more popular with males? I'll keep watching the reviews here to see if gender makes a difference in the likes/dislikes. Seems that so many BBC America series only have short runs of 4 or 5 episodes, I hope Hyperdrive is an exception to that precedent. None of the actors were known to me before but they all seem to click well in their roles. I hope it enjoys a long run!
