What makes it different from others?
Intense, gripping, stylish and poignant
it is the rare 'crazy' movie that actually has something to say.
View MoreBlending excellent reporting and strong storytelling, this is a disturbing film truly stranger than fiction
View Moremillennium was everything that was right about a TV show. scary, sharp, atmospheric, fun, disturbing, thought-provoking, i could go on. striking all the right chords from its very first moody frame, its three-season run made me run home every Friday night before going out to have fun. it was the first show that ever really hooked me and filled me with hope that sharp material wasn't completely lost. it's first season opens with Frank Black (the AMAZING Lance Henriksen) moving his family back to his hometown of seattle and taking a job as a consultant for the millennium group (a secretive group of former assorted law enforcement officers), hunting serial killers. Frank, who has a psychic gift (or curse) to see what the killer sees, is an expert at tracking down the worst of the disturbed or the most skilled of the vicious. Though this has come with a price. The inherent evil of the world has at times made Frank a target of several violent types and even caused severe emotional issues, filled with fear and paranoia, making him question not just his sanity, but the longevity of the world. seemingly, the only thing keeping him in check and filling him with hope is his wife and daughter, who are also effected by Frank's gift. millennium doesn't stop there. the evil being hunted is not always human, often times (especially in season two) swaying toward conspiracy, supernatural, and religious threats that could possibly jeopardize civilization. the millennium group claims their intention is to prevent these threats, though often using methods that Frank finds unacceptable, making him question their intentions and sometimes separating his loyalty. this show worked. it went in directions that would easily scare others and took its time coming together which probably tested viewers patience, but i stayed hooked. captivated by the dark, moody settings (the show globe-jumped), creepy score (by Mark Snow), the terrifying premise (of each episode), and the magnetic performances of Henriksen and Terry O'Quinn (as the enigmatic group member Peter Watts), these elements added class to what was essentially a horror show. Particular episodes (pilot, weeds, the curse of Frank Black) were stunning mood pieces, some were personal (walkabout, midnight of the century), and some were just fun (jose chung's doomsday defense, somehow, Satan got behind me). people who appreciated the x-files, se7en, and overall dark, thought- provoking material will love this. though everybody should watch it just for Henriksen, who should've won an emmy. millennium rocks!
View MoreI Enjoyed all the perturbations of this show, which had the mark of Creator Chris Carter and Producers Jim Wong and Glen Morgan. But what began with a lot of promise soon fell prey to Musical Producers.Wong and Morgan had a lot of influence in the first season and a half of this show, but later, I believe network influence changed the quality and eventually caused this show to end prematurely. One of my favorite Character Actors, "Bishop" from Aliens and Alien cubed Lance Henrickson is Frank Black - Former FBI Agent with a gift for seeing deep into the heart of darkness of everyman. This was not called "Psychic" and the character himself refused to accept that explanation of what he did - But what he was able to do was above your usual Fox Mulder type of Profiler - Whereas Mulder really could walk in those darknesses, Frank Black excelled at walking through those same areas and not be affected by them. But Black has retired, and moved to Seattle with his young wife and very young daughter. So he lends his gift to "The MillenniuM Group" which hires itself out to local law enforcement to assist with some of the worst serial crimes. This show starts with The Black Family moving to this new place with the promise of getting away from the pitch-black - But soon enough, Black is sucked back into that pit he escaped from in Washington DC. This show follows Black as he helps The MillenniuM Group and also tries to keep his own Family safe from what The Group ultimately represents.Because The MillenniuM Group itself is caught up in this same darkness, and Black finds this out, too late- After giving over a year of his life to the group. This does not become apparent until the last few episodes of Season Two.This show was shown pre-millennium, from 1996 to 1999 and was unceremoniously cut off before the actual Millennium occurred. The show was of course, finished within an episode of "The X Files" - Aptly called "MillenniuM" and the fate of Frank Black and his former Group is given a first class send off by Fox Mulder himself along with Dana Scully. This was the first time a Carter series was finished within the bounds of The X Files, the second time was for "The Lone Gunmen." This show was simply too dark for the Fox network at that time, and as I never missed an Episode, I did notice Network Tampering for the 3rd Season. Wong and Morgan left both this show and The X Files for their show "Space: Above and Beyond" which was treated poorly by Fox, preempted half the time, shown out of order, just like Firefly later. The loss of Morgan/Wong was noticed in both this show and The X Files.Im glad that the series was "finished" within the confines of one episode of The X Files, but I have heard talk of a MillenniuM Feature - That is what both The X Files and This show needs- X files needs a 3rd Feature that is not just an Elongated MOTW, and this show needs a proper send off. Because, it would seem, the MillenniuM came and went, but the effects of it are still with us today: 8 years of a bad government administration, which began at the time this show "Prophesied" the end would come.
View MoreI've been a fan of Lance for a long time, but since HBO came along I haven't seen many network series, so I missed this one. I would love to have Lance in my next film, so I've started watching it on the Chiller channel and it's great! This is CSI before CSI. Actually it's like Manhunter the series... Which as I've watched CSI, I've realized that's basically what it is. The lighting and tone of the shows is very similar as are the two leads. Lance's Frank Black is very reminiscent of William Peterson in Manhunter then of course CSI, but Millennium came before CSI. Seems like this one was just a little too ahead of its time Great show! They should definitely make a film!
View MoreMillennium was created by Chris Carter, has music by Mark Snow and stars Lance Henricksen, Terry O'Quinn, Bill Smitrovitch, Klea Scott, Megan Gallagher, Britany Tiplady, Kristen Cloke and CCH Pounder.FBI profiler Frank Black(Lance Henricksen)has a strange psychic gift which allows him to see what the killer sees. Moving back to Seattle with his wife Catherine(Megan Gallagher)and young daughter Jordan(Brittany Tiplady) he joins the mysterious Millennium Group. Millennium are an organisation which investigates brutal murders and strange events that all seem to be somehow linked to the possible upcoming end of the world. Frank works most often with his close friend Police Detective Bob Bletcher (Bill Smitrovich)and the enigmatic Millennium member Peter Watts(Terry O'Quinn).Henricksen gives one of his best performances as the haunted Frank. Frank's gift is a curse and as much as he longs for a happy and peaceful life he never seems to get that wish fulfilled. Henricksen has good chemistry with Megan Gallagher and Brittany Tiplady and they make a believable screen family. Tiplady is very good as Frank's daughter who may also share her fathers psychic abilities.Sarah-Jane Redmond is chilling as Frank's greatest enemy the demonic Lucy Butler. Kristen Cloke is impressive as the troubled Lara Means and Klea Scott is very good as young FBI agent Emma Hollis who becomes Frank's partner in the third season. This is well worth watching but if you are a first time viewer start from the beginning and don't watch it alone, it is very scary and some episodes are quite disturbing too. An excellent series filled with interesting and complex characters and brilliant performances. It's a shame this didn't become as successful as Carter's other series The XFiles. Perhaps when it was released the content was considered too dark(which it undeniably is)for audiences. However it's a thrilling and creepy series and quite unlike any other Detective series.
