No Ordinary Family Audience Reviews

Laikals The greatest movie ever made..!
Greenes Please don't spend money on this.
ChicRawIdol A brilliant film that helped define a genre
FrogGlace In other words, this film is a surreal ride.
bob_bear I came to this series late and just watched it on DVD over the course of about two weeks. I absolutely loved it.The casting was superb, the scripts were, for the most part, top notch. I really enjoyed watching the family evolve and with each episode something new was brought to the table. It alternated effortlessly from being amusing to being dark. Most importantly it had heart and intelligence. The SFX were amongst the best I've seen on TV.So how did this get canceled when so much crud runs on and on? A limited appeal? Lackluster promotion? Too good for its own good? Clearly it wasn't deemed to generate enough advertising revenue because at the end of the day it's not about quality but about profit.A series that will leave you wanting more. Still, it's worth watching as a stand alone season. I just wish there were more to come.
sofblaze-301-796293 I love this show I hate the fact that they canceled this show, cant they put it on the family channel if there isn't enough violence or sex or lying or people fighting about there cheating spouse. This was an awesome show and to end it leaving all those stones unturned.Who ever made that decision should get his ass kicked. Is there a web site to see what ratings of shows are and see if cougar town is any better.I don't think so... yes I did find a site with ratings and cougar town had 1.4 million 4th place that night in all syndicated channels. anyway they mom on this show is already doing a new show on the syfy channel.I wonder if any show has ever been canceled and then brought back...
aimless-46 If you ever thought about remaking "The Secret World of Alex Mack", with Alex's parents as the main characters and a heightened level of violence (and who hasn't), look to "No Ordinary Family" for proof as to why it would be a very bad idea. "No Ordinary Family" makes use of an assortment of out-of-work members of the "Angel" ensemble, but here the violence level simply does not match the family friendly tone of the rest of the show. And the hack writers (they are pretty horrible) were incapable of inserting inventive "Angel" inspired black comedy elements to mitigate this disconnect. Unlike "Angel" or "Alex Mack", "No Ordinary Family" is unable to effectively strike a self-knowing balance between its absurdist elements and its Norman Rockwell moments."No Ordinary Family" (thankfully put out of its misery by ABC after just one season) is a good illustration of the pitfalls of trying to expand your target demographic. The series probably would have worked (even with the same cast, writers, and premise) if it had simply targeted Alex's old demographic. That would have meant a focus on daughter Daphne (Kay Panabaker) and son J.J. (Jimmy Bennett), with only supporting roles for their father (Michael Chiklis) and their mother (Julie Benz). Benz showed a nice comic touch when over-playing Darla on "Angel", but none of this is utilized in this new series, where they rein in her character's intensity level to that of the most robotic of "The Stepford Wives". Fortunately for Benz, she gets to play off one of the stronger members of the cast, Autumn Reeser, who gets better scripting than any other cast member. Chiklis is horribly miscast and is further burdened with a second J.J.; Romany Malco doing a bad version of Jimmie J.J. "Dy-no-mite" Walker. Their frequent and staggeringly tedious scenes together are almost surreal in their embarrassing lameness.Panabaker acts rings around the rest of the cast (the talent disparity is almost scary) and after a couple of episodes she made her subtle mind-reading powers far more viewer engaging than the flashy superpowers of her parents. Mediocre special effects probably have something to do with this as the sequences focused on J.J.'s super-brain also soon become more interesting than the parental stuff. If you assume that the intent was to make an entertaining show that would survive for several seasons, you have to question the mental abilities of those who originally conceived this thing. And when it quickly became apparent that the sequences with the adults were mind-numbingly dull and the tone too uneven, a perceptive person would have changed the focus to the kids and counted themselves lucky to have someone as talented as Panabaker around to carry the show. Then again, what do I know? I'm only a child.
crizatu15 The idea is great, the producers have a lot to work whit. But as it seems many people want to see more reality in a story, and i ask my self, why would i even want to read a story if it's about day by day normal stuff, i want to see a true story, fantasy, adventure, i want a story to feed my imagination, i would give the series +10, if only the producers would feed my imagination, i do not care i already know what's going to happen, bad guys, family try to save the world etc etc, i want to see it happen, i want to see how, the problems they encounter, the lessons they learn from the mistakes they will make, but i wont since the program is canceled ... The cast was great, the story is a great classic, but for the lack of imagination from the writers/producers -1, please, reconsider, use your imagination and turn this canceled series, into the great and entertaining story that it could become
