Very disappointing...

A movie that not only functions as a solid scarefest but a razor-sharp satire.

Although I seem to have had higher expectations than I thought, the movie is super entertaining.

The film never slows down or bores, plunging from one harrowing sequence to the next.

Like other good shows in the genre this show was killed prematurly. Its a well executed melange of sci-fi,thriller and drama that was stopped right then when the sci-fi part became a dominant factor and the viewers were left with a giant cliffhanger. It is a well written and acted show.

OK... so this is my first ever review and i think SURFACE is fully worthy of it. having just finished watching it all i can say is wowwww!! from start to finish this show had me excited and gripped wanting to watch the next episode as soon as possible ( luckily for me i could as i got the DVD so could watch several at once ) for me in a show i look for something that excites me, keeps me guessing, leaves me wanting more, connects me with the people involved and at points gets me emotional. i loved the concept and felt this show could of gone in several directions for many more series's i felt the show gave me everything i look for. when nim is being chased and pursed i found myself shouting for him to run... i didn't want this poor guy to get caught he became such an integral part to the show and showed the human side to these sea creature in the way he was affectionately helped by miles and the way he was back. the bigger sea monsters just intrigued throughout with out saying too much as don't want it to be spoilt for others but believe me there is more to this show than you may think.... but my lips are sealed!!! i'm trying very hard to put into words how i felt about this show and struggling because it was that good words can not describe at the end of the series i sat there and clapped saying out loud wowww what a brilliant show. you can not miss this show, if you don't have it get it i'm sure you will not be disappointed i had it sat around for a while without watching it and that was a big mistake as i missed out on such an amazing show for several months. i would recommend this show to anyone so get watching.thanks for reading my first review let me know what you think i tried my best for a novice...lol now what are you waiting for go watch it :)

Surface had enormous potential to be one of the BEST TV shows. with a story that grabs hold of your imagination and doesn't let it go, one can't expect any less from such a show. Sadly though the series was put on hiatus in 2006 by NBC for summer Olympics. With enough imagination, even now in 2012 this series could still be revived and potentially be one of the best shows on TV. The only faults I have with the surface series is the rather poor cg graphics in the beginning ( probably due to low budget), and the dead end plot points of a few episodes that have no meaning to the outcome of the story. of course the most disappointing is the cliff hanger ending. The negative points aside, I loved surface. The plot twist, the unforeseen outcomes, great acting, very imaginative story, and of course Nimrod. All of these things brought this TV series together, and it is my hope to see an appropriate ending to this fantastic show.

Now that DVD's are available, it is perhaps time to take another look at "Surface". If only the series were available as Blu-ray, since it's major virtue is cinematography!First of all, an alert: It's difficult to know how to review this series, since it comprises two different story lines which are of enormously different quality, that of scientist Daughtry (Lake Bell, and her sidekick Rich played Jay R. Ferguson) and that of fourteen-year-old Miles (played by 15-year-old Carter Jenkins in his earliest strong role). If you want to enjoy viewing the series, it is important to know this in advance. On the other hand, throughout, the production values and cinematography are excellent and sometimes superb. Neverthelss, because of the wide differences in quality between the "Miles" story line and the "Daughtry" story line, you may find yourself fast-forwarding through parts of the latter.Before long, it becomes easy to tell which story line was artistically important to directors Jonas and Josh Pate. In early episodes, Miles and his buddy Phil (Eddie Hassell) are slightly immature freshmen whose lives are innocently altered, then eventually turned upside down -- by a unique amphibian lizard-like animal which they adopt and which rapidly grows in size, intelligence and finally in puzzling, powerful... talents. The protagonist of this story line, Miles, becomes increasingly affected by an eerie sense of proprietorship and of protection toward "Nim", the unique "new vertebrate" which at first seems purely a pet and quickly becomes infinitely more to Miles and to the scientific world.As astounding changes occur as the fifteen episodes develop, and it becomes more and more apparent that the story line of Miles and his relationship with Nim are to large extent rather a surprisingly successful vehicle for Carter Jenkins than an integrated part of the overall plot development -- and the cinematography becomes more and more devoted to this goal -- it becomes more and more clear that the Miles story line is primary and the Daughtry story line falls to an almost negligible level of quality.At few points can we say of "Surface" that the plan and the writing are much more than middling dramatic science-fiction, but those who find themselves impressed by the production values and cinematography as the fifteen episodes develop -- and the acting in the Miles story-line -- will be amply rewarded by perseverance to the end.
