    Truly Dreadful Film

    Fluentiama

Perfect cast and a good story

    Humaira Grant

It’s not bad or unwatchable but despite the amplitude of the spectacle, the end result is underwhelming.

Although I seem to have had higher expectations than I thought, the movie is super entertaining.

I started to watch The Closer because I love it's spin-off, Major Crimes. So a bit late in the game I like to add that even as Sharon Raydor, the lead in Major Crimes, was added as an adversary of Brenda Leigh Johnson to illustrate the latter's passion and give her a reason why she uses her unorthodox methods in apprehending a criminal, it had the opposite effect on me and I immediately took to Captain Raydor.Whereas Raydor is composed, polite and professional, Brenda Leigh Johnson only has hysterics, egotism and lies to make a suspect confess. I know The Closer stopped a long time ago, but I just had to add my two-cents.

Deputy Police Chief Brenda Leigh Johnson (Kyra Sedgwick) is a former Atlanta police officer and CIA-trained interrogator. She leaves Atlanta under a cloud, and is hired to run Major Crimes group of L.A. Police detectives by her former boss and ex, Assistant Chief Will Pope (J.K. Simmons). She is meant to alleviate the corruption and inappropriate police practices of the old system. And the cops around her is not happy to see her in charge. At its core, this is Kyra Sedgwick at her best. She creates an unique memorable character. Around her is a balanced cast anchored by G.W. Bailey. This procedural is simple enough. There is a crime. Brenda investigates the crime. Then she gets a confession from the criminal. It is rock solid as a procedural, but it is the group dynamics that is fun to watch.

A recent episode called "Maternal Instincts" was such a tear-jerker. Brenda really showed her true colors - a caring and compassionate person. Maybe the writers wanted to show how she has grown over the years from a rather self-centered person to someone who could actually be a mother. It was a brilliant piece of acting and writing for the entire cast.I live in Atlanta and was born here. Brenda's southern accent is rather thick for Atlanta, but just right for some areas outside the Atlanta metro area, perhaps middle or south Georgia. In any case, her accent is so good that when I first saw the show, I remember thinking "I didn't know Kyra Sedgwick was southern!". Guess the joke's on me - she's from NYC.This isn't the kind of show you can just have on in the background. You really need to focus on it and appreciate it like a fine glass of wine.
