Great visuals, story delivers no surprises
Awesome Movie
It is a whirlwind of delight --- attractive actors, stunning couture, spectacular sets and outrageous parties.
View MoreI enjoyed watching this film and would recommend other to give it a try , (as I am) but this movie, although enjoyable to watch due to the better than average acting fails to add anything new to its storyline that is all too familiar to these types of movies.
View MoreI'm suspicious of the ratings here, which seem to be too similar to be truly unique opinions. This is an extremely interesting take on the early years of the Trojan War and one that I've thoroughly enjoyed. Intriguing direction. Emotional storytelling. Ignore the trolls and give this one a chance.
View MoreIliad is an epic poem which it tells about the 10 year war between Achaeans (one of the four major ancient Greek tribes) and Troyans. It is full of battles between two big armies (55.000 Achaeans and 40.000 Trojans) but in the series it seems like two schools are in an argue. You feel like that the two armies has maximum 200 soldiers with no big battles. Apart from that there are many serious mistakes from the original poem.1) Iphegenia never sacrificed. The last moment goddess Artemis replaced her with a deer and took her as her priestess. 2) Achilleas fought hard to take Patroclus dead body. No one gave it to him. 3) Helen never betrayed the Trojans with the Trojan Horse 4) Ajax is descibed as "is described as of great stature, colossal frame and strongest of all the Achaeans" and not this short guy in the show 5) The tunnel that they were making in one week is between 2 cities with 500km distance
View MoreThis series tells the story of the fall of Troy, decidedly from the Trojan standpoint. Maybe they thought they would counterbalance the accounts that were all written by Greeks, who come off as nasty, grump bad guys in this version. Yet except for fanciful license about the goings on in Troy, it doesn't deviate as badly from Homer as most other accounts. Parts are very well done, others are ridiculous. But what makes no sense is the multicultural cast. In this rendition, Achilles, the greatest warrior of the Greeks, is black. We can allow for this insofar as Shakespeare and classical theater are done like this but in a movie it is simply inauthentic and contrived. Helen as portrayed here isn't beautiful enough to launch a rowboat, let alone 1000 ships. The production values are not bad and there is some historical accuracy which makes the rest puzzling. Finally since it is told from the Trojan viewpoint it all goes bad for them in the end, very bad, so it is more of a tragedy.
View MoreSo much of the usual literary snobbery in these reviews. Its certainly not the Iliad, but its not called the Iliad, now is it? Its a You will never be able to recreate the best classic literature in a visual media entirely satisfactorily.
