The plot isn't so bad, but the pace of storytelling is too slow which makes people bored. Certain moments are so obvious and unnecessary for the main plot. I would've fast-forwarded those moments if it was an online streaming. The ending looks like implying a sequel, not sure if this movie will get one
View MoreIt really made me laugh, but for some moments I was tearing up because I could relate so much.
View MoreThis is a dark and sometimes deeply uncomfortable drama
View MoreStrong acting helps the film overcome an uncertain premise and create characters that hold our attention absolutely.
View MoreMy comments on this film are being compared to the original Broadway play "Annie" rather than the 1982 film version, as I have been a fan of this musical since I first saw a live version of it. In that light, this is a great adaptation from stage to screen, as it mostly stays true to the original story and maintains much of that on-stage feel. This version brings back the song "N.Y.C," the great musical number that the 1982 version omitted. Perhaps the original version with Carol Burnett was more humorous and exciting than this film, but I actually like the feel of this one even better. It has that typical happy and innocent feel evident in many of my favorite Disney movies, such as "The Parent Trap." Unlike the original, all of the actors actually prove to be good singers as well, which is essential in a film like this. All of the songs are performed similar to the original musical, a great thing for fans like myself. Two things really keep this from being a perfect version of this story. First, one of my favorite scenes, in which Annie gets everyone at the White House to sing "Tomorrow," is not in this version. Also, Miss Hannigan pretending to be Annie's mother is completely different from the original story and is hardly believable. Nevertheless, I will overlook those two things because of the great joy this film brings and overall good job this adaptable does to one of my favorite musicals.*** out of ****
View MoreI saw clips from the new movie and immediately wanted to see it. I think there are good points and bad points to each movie. I think that the new movie had a better Annie and molly. But i think the old one had a better Mrs. Hannigan and daddy Warbucks. I like the new one better though. I still like the old one though. they both had very high spirited performances and incredible singing. The new one had better singing and acting. And its closer to the stage play.I think the new Annie is a whole lot prettier. Shes so adorable and i look to her as an inspiration.Don't get me wrong, the old annie is terrific but the new ones better. And Carol Burnett played Mrs.Hannigan perfectly. This is what i think about this movie
View MoreThere are several aspects of this movie that I would like to comment on. Mostly I will compare this movie to the movie Annie from the 1980's. That acting, although it is better, fell short of my expectations. I loved how in the 1982 movie Annie was a spunky, unruly girl with matted hair and the most endearing smile I've seen in along time. I think that the actress was able to capture the true nature of Annie, who lived on the streets and in terrible conditions. As for the new movie, Annie is adorable, no doubt but she's rich adorable. Her shiny hair and perfect white teeth don't force us to look past it all and really love Annie for her personality. A second aspect I'd like to address is Mr Warbucks. In the newer movie he is kind of a push over, no offense but the actor who plays him is a sweet man, with hardly a bad bone in his body. But the first movie the man is arrogant, conceited and mean. His heart change is believable. As far as vocals go, I feel that the first movie is more endearing due to the slight lack in vocal talent. Annie, who's voice is decent for a girl her age, is adorable, and Mr Warbucks stumbling baritone is priceless! I don't think Annie (1999) even comes close to being as good as its predecessor. If you are going to introduce your kids to this great movie, do so the old fashioned way. Don't spoil them with a rich kid rose colored glasses view of poverty and love.
View MoreI used to be obsessed with Annie when I was young and saw all of the movies and the Broadway show. Then, I saw that this film was coming out. I was so excited. I watched it and absolutely loved it. I think it is the best Annie film to date. Why do I think that? the acting. Newcomer Alicia Morton is adorable and has a fantastic voice. She does great in the emotional scenes and is tough at some times and sweet at others. Audra Mcdonald also gives a solid performance and plays the part of grace perfectly. Kudos to Kathy Bates for singing because in an interview I saw she said she'd never sing. She also was hilarious at Ms. Hannigan. Victor Garber, Alan Cumming, and Kristin Chenoweth also gave great performances. Oh and the orphans and Sandy were adorable! I recommend this film. Great for the family.
