Tied for the best movie I have ever seen

Story: It's very simple but honestly that is fine.

Strong acting helps the film overcome an uncertain premise and create characters that hold our attention absolutely.

Some movies, like the original "blob" film, can be looked at as being cheesy, but it also can be very much appreciated for how it was constructed for a 1950's audience. And then there are movies that are just plain dull and not worth the viewer's time. For the first "blob" starring Steve McQueen, I was impressed with the visual effects, but with everything else, was disappointed in. You'd think that 14 years later something a little more interesting could have been added in the next chapter of The Blob series; but that's a falsity.After the first time The Blob was rid of, it was dropped in the arctic where it would have thought to never thaw again. Unfortunately, more parts of The Blob were found. And it wasn't in the arctic? There wasn't an explanation behind this, so that questions the continuity of this film. Apparently, this movie is a sequel to The Blob of 1958. But how can it be if it has a different origin? This movie can't be even counted as a prequel, in terms of the story, it would have to be called a remake because none of the original characters are in this film and the story isn't the same.The characters don't even matter in this film either. All of them are too thin to really have any dimension to them. This film was solely made just to bring The Blob back to the theatre. To make things worse, none of the special effects were changed. With The Blob consuming so many victims, you'd think the viewer would want to see something longer than five seconds of The Blob rolling over someone or a quick scare. There's nothing to really look at, plus that much of the movie was in the dark and it's hard to see what's going on.Alas, the only redeeming qualities to this movie are The Blob itself, the music in the background, and it's somewhat funny (very few) scenes. For the scenes, there were just some instances that either did not make much sense or just took way too long before The Blob was supposed to take over the screen. Mort Garson who has some nice tunes created the music but nothing was truly special. As for The Blob in this film, the only credit I can give, is that it's SOMEWHAT smoother moving than it's predecessor in 1958, but that's about it. It still has its silly gelatinous look and it still never really shows how it devours its victims. Nothing has changed for the good in this movie.Beware! The Blob is no improvement over the original; it's a step backwards actually. Something unique could have been done but the only changes that were made was the story and having The Blob move through various other cracks and crevices that the 1958 version didn't move through.

Halfway between playing Major Nelson and J.R. Ewing on television, Larry Hagman found the time to direct this low-budget sequel to the 1958 schlock horror classic that first put Steve McQueen on the map. The tone is somewhere between an Attack of the Killer Tomatoes-like parody (though several years prior to that film)and a straightforward monster-on-the-loose thriller. Although never truly scary, there are a few nice moments, including a climax that essentially recreates the classic movie theater scene from the original but resets it in a crowded bowling alley. Mostly it's fun to try and spot the many well-known actors who appear throughout, including Godfrey Cambridge and Carol Lynley as town locals; comedian Shelley Berman as a hair stylist; Dick Van Patten as a Boy Scout leader; and Burgess Meredith and Hagman himself (nearly unrecognizable) as a pair of hobos. Young Cindy Williams (pre-Laverne & Shirley and American Graffiti) plays a dope-smoking hippie chick, while character actor Richard Stahl gives a great slow-burn comic performance as the bowling alley owner. If you're a fan of the original or just enjoy early-'70s drive-in creature features, you may have some fun taking a look at this.

The ending of the first 1958 movie made it very apparent that a sequel would be a possibility. Yet it wasn't until 14 years later that a sequel finally got done.The 1958 movie "The Blob" was a bit of a weird case. It was a '50's B-movie, in every way but yet it all came together just fine. It made it a very enjoyable and even somewhat original genre movie, that surprisingly worked out way better than it really should had. But how is it possible for a '70's movie to try and recreate the same sort of style of atmosphere that was the case with an '50's B-monster movie. It's part of the reason why this movie just doesn't work out well at all within its sort.This movie is insane. It's cheap looking and makes an unfinished impression, which is partly true since this movie got mostly shot without a real finished script. It must be also one of the reasons why some of the movie its sequences go on for far too long, while they also seem to add very little to the movie or its story. It even makes this movie at certain parts an annoying one to watch. Some characters pop up in this movie and than suddenly disappear out of it again, which make them incredibly redundant ones. This is just not a very good example of good film-making.The actual blob itself also shines far too little in this movie. There is never really a real sense of danger when the blob is involved and the movie does a bad job at handling its build up and tension. It's also all real predictable and all of the deaths are quite unimaginative.Good thing I can say about this movie is that it has some decent humor at it times. Obviously the movie is at parts attempting a more humorous approach to its story and concept, which has as a result a couple of entertaining moments and pieces of humorous dialog.But above all things the movie remains a bad one, a real bad one actually, even within its genre.3/10http://bobafett1138.blogspot.com/

Since this is a direct sequel to the original Blob movie, this film picks up almost immediately where The Blob ended. A frozen piece of the Blob is accidentally allowed to thaw out and from there it eats, eats and eats some more until it reaches a climax similar to the famous cinema scene of the original. Only this time; it's a bowling alley.The main problem I have with this movie is that it doesn't deliver anything new really. It's just different characters, a different environment and a slightly different plot.If you really love the Blob and can't get enough; then this movie is for you. If you are not a Blob fan, you may not find much to enjoy in this movie.A mediocre, but slightly enjoyable film. I give it 6 out of 10 stars.
