Intense, gripping, stylish and poignant
Absolutely amazing
It really made me laugh, but for some moments I was tearing up because I could relate so much.

View MoreI despise when we are tricked into watching a movie for promised scenes which never appear. The man with distorted face was NEVER seen in the movie, and I'm angry about that.If it wasn't for the deception, I would give this movie a 6-7. The lady who adopted the "satanic girl" didn't seem to care that everyone was dying around her, and she seemly kept the girl for weeks past the events occurring. It's one of those movies where the main protagonist doesn't do a damn thing or tell anybody or ask for help (other than maybe talking to one friend, who dies... of course). Just a frustrating plot for those reasons, and the fact that there were scenes from the trailer which were never in the movie.

View MoreI am a Renee Zellwegger fan. Comedic acting is the hardest genre to achieve successfully, yet she succeeds doing it. I was happy to see her in a different type role and she pulled it off very well. She makes a believable social worker, appearing naturally caring and good with children, and then as the movie progresses at a very nice even pace, her suspicions and then terror comes across believably. Every actor in this movie did an excellent, top notch job. The story and plot moved at just the right pace to keep me engaged and interested. Fast enough to keep my mind from jumping ahead and guessing outcomes, full enough to care about the characters. The direction, camera work, editing (seamless)and score were all superb. Although it I a bit dated now, I still enjoy pulling it up on a rainy lazy day and re-watching it.
View MoreThis Renee Zellweger horror film isn't the greatest thing you'll ever see, although I don't really think it's deserving of the tidal wave of negative reviews it has received since its 2009 release. The movie starts out pretty well, with some mystery and it makes you question whether the little girl is being tormented by her parents or by an evil force, or if she is just evil incarnate herself. Jodelle plays the part of Lily well, innocent and sweet when she needs to be and threatening and scary when called for. Renee really pulled off a good performance here too, she really got the over stressed, well meaning and kind social worker down. And as the film progresses she really did a good job of portraying the terror and at her wits end persona. Bradley cooper turns in an alright performance, I mean to be honest it didn't require a lot of great effort, it was just kind of a whatever character. The writing is pretty standard for the horror genre, it's not like slasher movie bad but it's nothing to be bragging about. One complaint I do have with the film is the effects of the demon when it is revealed, looked stupid and cheesy, wish they would've done better with that, came off as cheap. 7/10 for Case 39.
