Excellent and certainly provocative... If nothing else, the film is a real conversation starter.
View MoreClose shines in drama with strong language, adult themes.
View MoreI watch a movie is to enjoy what i see..period..i seldom incorporate too much reality into details unless it is obvious... like i live in the Philippines and our situation may not be the same as people living in Los Angeles.. so i enjoy this movie for what i see as possible.. not considering what people in L.A. may have experience an entirely different thing (actuality)Just one curiosity .. when Kim Bassinger cut the armpit of the man and told him he will die instantly and feel numb all over his body.. is this true?/ anyway i love the movie and enjoy the trip through and through.. Chris Evans was a newbie in this film and he did well for a whatever training he had ...not to mention his good looks is a plus factor as the cameraman is like 90% on his face .. capturing all his emotions.. he did pretty fantastic in this aspect..Kim is all jittery and shaky in her voice.. and i love her acting and her eyes are seemingly teary all the time as emotions filled mother would have been...I felt bad if we see entertaining the it is entertaining for all its worth.. love to say this.. IT'S JUST A MOVIE...sit back and relax..
View MoreCellular is an entertaining fast-paced thriller. The plot is about "Ryan Ackerman" (Chris Evans) who gets a phone call from a complete stranger "Jessica Martin" (Kim Basinger) she is very distressed and tells him that she has been kidnapped and that she has been clicking wires together, he doesn't believe her, but he still decides to go to the police to help her, there's commotion at the police station and he is told to take the phone call upstairs to another cop, "Ryan" then hears the bad guy "Ethan" (Jason Statham) over the phone threaten "Jessica", "Ryan" then believes her 100% and goes out of his way to help her.The performances are perfect and there's a tiny bit of humour mainly from an arrogant lawyer (played by Rick Hoffman, his character actually doesn't have a name). The only thing wrong with this film is the swearing, the words "Holy S*it" are used a lot and there's no need for it, Larry Cohen and Chris Morgan should have calmed down with those curse words when writing the story and screenplay (movies are not realistic, so why not go one step further and ban swearing from movies altogether?! and use milder words like "Oh, Snap" instead?!)Apart from the swear words, Cellular is brilliant. It is compared to "Phone Booth" (which has even more swearing, that movie has so much swearing that it actually ruined the film). There probably will not be any future movies similar to Cellular due to cellphones changing dramatically over the years, there's many ways to call for help via cellphones nowadays, a plot like Cellular probably wouldn't be even halfway plausible anymore.
View MoreThis is now 10 years old....Wow-----time flies. If you like really fast paced thrillers, and your not into Checkov...this could be your movie. The name of this above average flick could have been..."101 uses for your mobile phone". This does for Cellular Phones ...what Chocolat did for Chocolate. It is real edge of the seat stuff, and once you start on this zany ride...the credits are where your getting off. The story is good...although most people will guess the end about 21 minutes and 41 seconds before the end. However it is impossible to criticize a film with so much energy...which is well directed and pretty well acted. One may say it is way over the top...and it could never happen in real life. Both of those points are true......but we do go to Cinemas to be entertained....don't we...???
View MoreIt's rare when I movie is so bad that I don't watch the entire thing. I realize there has to be some level of stupidity on the part of some characters to make a situation last long enough to be a movie rather than a clip. However the first twenty minutes of Cellular proved that not only were all the characters stupid in behavior, the acting was horrible, there were way too many convenient consequences for the character Ryan, and too many unbelievable situations (anyone in southern California will tell you how rare it is to find a parking spot right in front of every building you go to!) Although I didn't watch the entire movie I seriously doubt if it could have morphed into something remotely enjoyable or entertaining in it's last 75 minutes. I do believe it would be a perfect choice for the peanut gallery wisecracks of MST 3000.
