Also known as "Armour of God III." Jackie Chan stars as Martin, aka Asian Hawk in this action comedy. Chan delivers as expected. Heavy action, comedy, and over choreographed fight scenes.Chan is a master thief who uses his ability to steal art work. His latest job is to find and obtain the 12 bronze heads of the Chinese zodiac which were stolen in 1860. The movie has a theme of western civilization plunder and returning the loot. The beginning was great with Chan being a human toboggan during his escape, even if he went faster than physically possible. The scenes lessened from this point as a smart adult action comedy turned into a kids movie by the pirate scene which included one man who reminded me of Johnny Depp. The ending tapered off as the plot became a bit odd with the volcano. Fun popcorn film. Just don't expect too much.Parental Guide: No f-bombs, sex, or nudity. Girl/girl fight.

A total crap film from a martial art legend, Jackie Chan. "Chinese Zodiac" is predictable, frustrating, dramatized, unfunny, boring and pretentious action packed that shouldn't be produced at any chances. My thought during watching this disaster is when would this film over also feel regrets for not turning it off after about 30 minutes. The idea of this movie could be come from some Hollywood blockbuster film like "Mission Impossible", "Indiana Jones" and is that pirates, seriously? There are so many coincidences, disorganized plot, cheap yet unfunny line, non-sense action sequences and amateur acting from it's supporting casts. With holes everywhere and so many weaknesses spotted, it just turns my mood to see this and give no care of what happens to the relics or any bronzes which JC and his crews rescued. Even advanced gadgets the movie got or Jackie Chan itself couldn't save these. At the end, the best part of this horrible nightmare is how relieved I feel when the movie finally over, what a completely waste of time. Alongside with "The Spy Next Door", "Chinese Zodiac" couldn't be only just contenders for the worst Jackie Chan film ever made but also wounds action genre itself unless you're a Jackie Chan fan, I think you couldn't be hating this much as long as your idol appears on screen.

I'll keep this short and in layman's terms. This movie is terrible. I'm actually 2/3rds into the movie as I write this because I cannot focus my attention towards this disaster anymore. I don't know much about technical aspects of cinema like cinematography, vfx, or video processing, but this movie's final cut looks bad. It looks like a standard grainy DVD res on a full HD blue ray setup (which is what Im viewing)... so there's that. Where do I begin? I can start by saying that the plot is very similar to Operation Condor (the one released in the US). Chan has lost his ability to pull off amazing fight scenes. No doubt that he's in shape for his age, but the action choreography in this movie was beyond corny. Chan relies on a group of young pretty Asians to team up with to do the heavy fight scenes. Also, they can't act worth a sh*t. Even by watching a dubbed version of this movie, all I see is a bunch of hysterical people pantomiming as if it was a silent film. This brings me to another major technical problem with this movie, which is the audio dubbing. The dubbed voice audio levels are very bad. I could hardly hear the actors talk throughout the whole movie. I was guessing what was going on most of the time. Worst of all, the blu ray of this movie doesn't come with subtitles. There's also the unnecessary usage of CGI. Its everywhere in this movie, even in simple scenes where they throw stuff into a river (no kidding). Jackie Chan plays some sort of Indiana Jones grave robbing archaeologist that has to acquire a bunch of bronze busts. Along the way, a European heiress tags along with Chan's crew to go treasure hunting with them. Its Operation Condor all over again. Except this time instead of Nazis, its French aristocrats. They jet set to a bunch of expensive looking locations like Paris, and a micro island with an active volcano, but still skimp out scenes by using unconvincing CGI. Ie: the skydiving scene which was fake and entirely redone w/ VFX graphics. So after a bunch of (maybe a dozen) mediocre PG fight ballets, the movie ends. Its followed by the ending blooper scenes which weren't even good. The best part of it was the blooper montage from Chan's career where some of his old stunts were shown. I'm sure it was perceived as a master piece in his mainland China, but this movie was just an overextended and over budget crapfest.

I saw "Chinese Zodiac", starring Jackie Chan-The Karate Kid-2010, the Rush Hour films; Oliver Platt-X-Men: First Class, Lake Placid and Xingtong Yao-this is her second film with Amor being her first. This is a milestone of a movie for a couple of reasons. First, is because this is supposedly Jackie Chan's last action movie-he said he is retiring from martial arts movies because of his age and injuries but will still make regular movies. Second, is because Jackie got into the Guinness World Record for 'Most Credits in One Movie' for this film. He has 15, including writer, producer, director, fight choreographer, music composer and, Oh Yeah, actor-the previous record was held by Robert Rodriguez with 11. Anyway, Jackie plays a mercenary that recovers lost artifacts. In this case, he is hired by Oliver to find the 12 bronze heads of the Chinese Zodiac that were stolen from the Chinese. Xingtong plays one of Jackie's team members. There are lots of spectacular stunt work and amazing fight sequences, as usual for a Jackie Chan film and the end credits have the usual bloopers and out takes. There is an added bonus at the end where they show clips from Jackie's earlier films, which I'm sure, as a tribute. It's rated "PG-13" for the violence and some partial nudity-Jackie, not his female co-stars-and a running time of 1 hour & 49 minutes. I'm a big Jackie Chan fan and really enjoyed this film, so I would buy this on Blu-Ray. It's in limited release-at the theater I saw it at, they only had one showing.
