It's fun, it's light, [but] it has a hard time when its tries to get heavy.

Although it has its amusing moments, in eneral the plot does not convince.

It was OK. I don't see why everyone loves it so much. It wasn't very smart or deep or well-directed.

The film creates a perfect balance between action and depth of basic needs, in the midst of an infertile atmosphere.

In New York City, a crime lord's right-hand man is helped by a woman seeking retribution. Dead Man Down for sure had some good moments of action at times but also Rapace and Farrell did their job pretty good but the film was very slow and even when the action hit you just didn't care that much. The rest of the cast unfortunately didn't impress me that much either especially Terrence Howard who kind of plays himself or the same role he played in Sabotage. This is of course a WWE Studios movie so i wouldn't expect much from it really. (4/10)

This film tells the story of an important right hand man of a crime syndicate leader, who secretly has his own agenda to complete. He meets a mysterious female neighbour, and his secret plan gets derailed and complicated. The plot of "Dead Man Down" looks thrilling and exciting on paper, but unfortunately it does not turn out to be the case. The plot is quite poorly explained and gets confusing in the first place, because it saves an important twist until the middle of the film. The pace is quite slow as well, and it can do with a cut of unnecessary scenes to make the flow quicker. I also find the romance subplot rather unconvincing, but it is not a lethal point. The acting is quite strong, Colin Farrell is convincing as a crook and Noomi Rapace is quite good too. Even Isabelle Huppert whose role is minor but she leaves a lasting impression of her grace and beauty. Overall, I think it is OK to watch mindlessly to kill time, but don't expect a masterpiece that will send chills down your spine.

Really solid and heartfelt gangster/revenge film with some interesting and original plot elements thrown in. All of the performances are top notch, and there doesn't seem to be nearly as much suspension of belief as is normally required for this kind of movie, although part of that feeling is no doubt due to how well this production is done. It carries a sense of foreboding doom throughout, but, by modern standards at least, the actual violence depicted is not particularly extreme or gratuitous, instead being rather sporadic, albeit fairly realistic and unpleasant when it does occur. This is one of those seemingly rare films which, while centered around criminals, doesn't seem to glorify them in any way, and, if anything, makes a life of serious crime look like a very bad choice. Another positive point is that the conclusion wasn't completely telegraphed, and so with both bleak and hopeful outcomes on the table, tension was very effectively maintained; however, with that said, it's the ending where this film lost so much of the magic it had been so carefully crafting, and why I dropped it down from a 10 to an 8. Specifically, and I'm sorry if this is a little bit of a spoiler, it was really disappointing when the grand finale degenerated into that of pretty much just another typical action movie, sadly squandering so much of the thoughtful plot development that had gotten it to that point. Suddenly it became necessary to very consciously suspend belief, which really broke much of the spell it had been casting. (My best guess is that someone made the unfortunate mistake of calling in Michael Bay to do some last minute script polishing, no doubt fearing that the film was otherwise too intelligent for broad commercial success.) All things considered though, it was still way, way better than most movies in this genre, which tend to be all quips and no heart.

I must admit I was a bit bored so I decided to watch this film and I am extremely happy that I did watch it. This film sees a mob bosses henchman fall for a girl filled with revenge that truly gives him something to live for. Colin Farrell is in the lead for this film and he is really good, he does a great job in convincing the audience that he is truly a man out for revenge and that he is only really living for that revenge. The supporting cast is also really good with Noomi Rapace being a really interesting foil for Farrell and her story is also really interesting and a great parallel with Farrell's. A film like this also usually needs a good villain and this film had it with one of Terence Howard's better performances as the evil mob boss. He looked like he had fun with the role and that he truly did enjoy being a part of this film. Dominic Cooper is an actor that I really like he is seemingly growing and trying different roles and he is great in this film with his character evolving throughout the film and going from an unessential character to a big character. The story is billed as a simple revenge story and I would have been fine with that but this film really had layers to it and I really liked the fact that this film was willing to risk its story for the film and it definitely succeeded. The script was alright with a lot of the dialogue working but sometimes because of a foreign language or a slow situation it just seemed like it was sometimes dragging and making the film a bit slower. The style of the setting is really cool and the gritty tone really works, however, sometimes during the action scenes there is allot of shaky cam and it makes it hard to see what is really going on and takes you out of the situation. Overall this is a great film that I would advise all action/suspense fans see.
