John Arnold DeMarco is a man who believes he is Don Juan, the greatest lover in the world. Clad in a cape and mask, DeMarco undergoes psychiatric treatment with Dr. Jack Mickler to cure him of his apparent delusion. But the psychiatric sessions have an unexpected effect on the psychiatric staff and, most profoundly, Dr Mickler, who rekindles the romance in his complacent marriage.

Let me be very fair here, this is not the best movie in my opinion. But, this movie is fun, it has purpose and is very enjoyable to watch.

.Like the great film, it's made with a great deal of visible affection both in front of and behind the camera.

for the art to remember the flavor of old romance. for the crumbs of fairy tale. and for the special result of meeting between Brando and Depp. a film who wakes-up memories, emotions and joy to discover another side of life. not pink or sweet but so realistic, crazy and nice than must represent more than fiction. a movie like a cure. strange, soft, almost chaotic but charming for the power to build not only sand castles, to rebirth an old fashion myth but for the smart use of clichés. a film about freedom and force of dream more than about love. a show. but not a common one. only chance to watch a wise advice from a talented director. sure, it is not a great movie. maybe, it is not a good one. it is only remarkable. and not only for its inspired music.

Great Picture. Maybe not a masterpiece...(well, probably not), but nonetheless a completely joyful experience. The question whether Depps story is fact or fiction is really really neither here nor there. If it's not true, it bloody well should be !! lol. And if the story doesn't catch you, the performances should. Marlon Brando and Johnny Depp. Each one among the greatest actors of their generations. What a pleasure to Watch them working together. This is what acting is all about. They both shine as does Faye Dunaway (wow, she's still a beauty). And while the movie won't be considered among the highlights of their careers, I'll still highly recommend it to all movie lovers.

If you've ever seen the Joanne Woodward and George C. Scott film "They Might Be Giants", then you'll no doubt recognize this plot in "Don Juan DeMarco". The film begins with Johnny Depp making a sexual conquest in modern day America---yet he THINKS he's the legendary lover Don Juan. Later, when this lover suddenly is found contemplating suicide, an aging psychiatrist (Marlon Brando) is called in to help. Not surprisingly, Don Juan DeMarco is committed to the institution where Brando works and Brando fights hard to get assigned him as a patient--even though he's due to retire very soon. The Doctor tries hard as he works with his new patient NOT to medicate him. After all, the Doc LIKES hearing all of his patient's weird stories of love, sex and adventure. And, through the course of the film, DeMarco starts rubbing off on his doctor--to the delight of the man's wife! Johnny Depp is very nice playing a suave Latin lover and Brando is really good because he seems nice and relaxed. My only big complaint is not them but the bafflingly stupid ending. Really. Up until then, I could suspend disbelief and enjoy the film, but the ending really left me shocked at its silliness. Still, worth a look.

I was very disappointed in this movie. I rented it with such great expectations from a movie that has Marlon Brando and Johnny Depp in one and in the same movie. Alas, there was nothing but flat characters, the silliest accent I have ever heard an actor come up with, and suspension of disbelief was so hard I had to call a friend to moan what a silly movie it was. In fact was it not for my love for both Marlon and Depp I would have given it a zero! In an interview with the Actor's Studio, Depp said that the hardest thing about acting with Brando was trying to keep a straight face. I imagine Brando knew from the get go that the movie was a joke.
