Good idea lost in the noise

Doomtomylo

a film so unique, intoxicating and bizarre that it not only demands another viewing, but is also forgivable as a satirical comedy where the jokes eventually take the back seat.

A movie that not only functions as a solid scarefest but a razor-sharp satire.

The plot isn't so bad, but the pace of storytelling is too slow which makes people bored. Certain moments are so obvious and unnecessary for the main plot. I would've fast-forwarded those moments if it was an online streaming. The ending looks like implying a sequel, not sure if this movie will get one

This was the movie which made me fall in love with the computers, cello and girls ha. OK it was in 1980's but this movie is not about time, its still relevant today. Its an excellent movie over all with loads of music strong plot and funny moments.I like the part where a disorganised person goes out to get a "PC" to organise his life. Clearly that does not work and I am sure it will be the same today. So many people have phones with more power then old PC's but they still have no ideaIf you have not seen it then do it now.

Since even the slightest info on a movie might undermine the experience of the first time (trailers tend to do this sadly) i flagged this comment as spoiler. There is no danger of ruining the movie if you read my review, but if you haven't seen it yet, some small and very little details i refer to, might make your experience not as good as watching something you have no idea about. The 80s have a lot of different movies to brag about, as a decade. This movie, Electric Dreams, is one of the greatest of them, for many reasons.First of all, the characters. There is the girl next door, there is the protagonist, who is a simple guy (that everyone can say that is a better man than he is), nice looking idiot, and a unique character who is born step by step. A computer Artificial Intelligence. If you don't mind a little...crappy scenario on how AI was created (its fun and funny after all and that's the point, its somehow a comedy), you will love the movie.Secondly there is the setting. Characters have good background to support the movie, It gives nice morals on love and friendship, touches you deeply and any computer geek like me will just love it.Finally there is another thing that makes this movie different than the other 80s movies. During 80s lots of movies follow the feel-good philosophy with a somehow happy end. The feel good philosophy though, makes those American movies so cheesy that they defy description, from the beginning to the end. This does not apply here and that's a good thing. This feel good feeling takes place in the end and its cheesy of course, a VERY GOOD decision that leaves you with the good feelings after... nah, i said enough...

They don't make 'em like this anymore. Watching a restored version of this film on DVD put a smile on my face. It's a warm science fiction romance about an electronic prodigy with the sensibilities of a child come to life.Miles is the proverbial introvert who has a relatively good job, and is smitten by an arrival of the opposite sex in his building. But at the same time Miles, being a paper and pencil architect, is wondering how he can get his life organized. He goes for the obvious option of seeking a left brained solution. In other words; a computer. But the logic circuits of keyboard, monitor and printer cannot compare to the ultimate solution of a second mind in the form of a the fairer sex. Miles discovers the thing that a computer can not give him, and Edgar, his computer, discovers what he cannot have and has always misunderstood about human feelings. It's a simple film with lots of cinematic trickery to make it appear bigger than it actually is. It's a film about heart and mind, and about which wins out over the other. It's a classic tale of the mind finding the heart, and the heart finding peace of mind with another soul. One of the appealing things is seeing various exteriors shot locally, including a local radio personality whom I used to listen to on KMEL, the Blue Angels, Palace of Fine Arts and a number of other places. The music is of course classic 80's fare, and the primitive electronic tones highlight's the time and themeIt's a delightful warm-hearted film that I waited many years to see again in its full widescreen glory, and relive some younger days when things were a little more innocent, and a little more lively. When computers needed dialup modems, electronic music had just come into its own, and video games were still using cartridges (note the Activision cartridges for the Atari 2600 behind Miles when he purchases his computer, Edgar).Well, I waited well over 20 years to see it, and I'm glad I did. It's the kind of simple and loving film that I would be proud to shoot for the rest of my life. It has heart, it has warmth, it is a segment of 1980s San Francisco Bay Area that puts a smile on this viewers face. It is electronic romance San Francisco 1980's style. Please watch it and enjoy, but try not to be too judgmental.

I'm not into hate comments, but this time I had to. I mean I even watched Megalodon till the end to be sure my rating would be based on the whole film. At first I thought 2 would be okay because the lead actress is hot and the song during the credits is fine, but then the film is too weak to deserve a 2 (even a 1 to be honest). This film officially ranks as one (THE ONE) of the worst films I have ever seen, from dreadful acting, abysmal plot... of course the most dreadful of all this is Edgar's abilities, I mean the premises of a lot of science fiction films are easier to believe than that.Don't watch, don't rent, don't allow anyone to watch it, even if you hate them.
