I am only giving this movie a 1 for the great cast, though I can't imagine what any of them were thinking. This movie was horrible

If you're interested in the topic at hand, you should just watch it and judge yourself because the reviews have gone very biased by people that didn't even watch it and just hate (or love) the creator. I liked it, it was well written, narrated, and directed and it was about a topic that interests me.

Ostensibly a modern retelling of Jane Austen's "Sense and Sensibility", the sisters Nora Dominguez (Camilla Belle) and Mary Dominguez (Alex Vega) are now rich Latinas who grew up rich and ignorant of their culture. When they lose their father and their fortune, they are forced to live with their poor relatives in East L.A.Jane Austen doesn't always translate completely to modern times. Marriage just doesn't have the same importance as in Jane's times. The culture has changed in 200 years. But if we take the story without the Austen expectations, it works relatively fine. However not everything is as fine as others. Mary is a little too privileged and ignorant to be likable for my taste. Alex Vega is playing her too much like a stereotype. And the production value is a little bit limited. With good actors available, they needed a more experienced director. Angel Gracia could only give us a made-for-TV level of style. Overall this rom-com is much richer of a story than most. It is definitely better than most of Lifetime or Hallmark romance.

About these two sisters who were extremely rich and knew no other world but the one of Beverly Hill's. But not until their father died and bankruptcy came face to face with them. They needed to sell their home and live somewhere else. Unfortunately, 'somewhere else' was East LA, in where they finally saw their family roots and cultures they never tried of seeing. Adaption was hard, but with love being learned and found… it wouldn't be much. I do not know why others did not like this, but I actually found it worth the watch. I liked how they came from being so clueless about life to finding ways to live. It is something pretty realistic—perhaps not about the mansion and all that—but getting into a life you never had the chance to live… or even see, then eventually love it. But two things that I did not like were the fast-paced love affairs of the Dominguez sisters and the way the director (maybe) did not make it seem like they were losing everything they once took for granted. (Fun with Dick and Jane is a good example for a good one.) Over-all, it was satisfying.

The complex plot and poetic dialogue demand a lot from the cast and audience alike. All aspiring actors should be forced to be watch this film at drama school as it contains the full spectrum of emotions that they would be expected to convey throughout their career, such as happiness, sadness and being in love. Particular highlights include the 'drunk scene' where it is clear the actress had spent time with drunk people, in order to ensure she gave a realistic performance. It is this kind of method acting and attention to detail, that really make this film stand out. Being British, it was great to learn some more about the Hispanic community in the USA. Such was the sensitive portrayal of Mexicans in this film, that I have since cancelled my holiday to Mexico. This film gives such a rich account of the complexities of Mexican culture, that I don't think that a trip there would add anything extra. In short, if you're looking for a sassy, poignant, funny and unpredictable film, then this is the one for you! Jane Austen would be proud to see her name in the credits!

From Prada to Nada is almost as bad as Material Girls. Both films have basically the same plot (rich girls who become poor and have to face the real world), and their screenplays are equally irritating and repulsive.I just said that From Prada to Nada is "almost" as bad as Material Girls. For better or for worse, Camilla Belle and Alexa Vega know how to act, and they aren't as antipathetic as Hilary and Haylie Duff were in that movie. But for the rest, From Prada to Nada is a genuine atrocity which made me want to pluck out my eyes while I was watching it.So, in conclusion, I recommend this "film" as a penance for minor sins, as a torture instrument in terrorist camps and to masochistic people. In summary, a vomitive and deplorable movie.
