Such a frustrating disappointment

At first rather annoying in its heavy emphasis on reenactments, this movie ultimately proves fascinating, simply because the complicated, highly dramatic tale it tells still almost defies belief.

A terrific literary drama and character piece that shows how the process of creating art can be seen differently by those doing it and those looking at it from the outside.

The film never slows down or bores, plunging from one harrowing sequence to the next.

A beautiful gold digger matches wits with a shrewd Beverly Hills divorce lawyer who is increasingly attracted to her. Intolerable Cruelty has an interesting Cast and a talented pair of directors unfortunately the script is terrible and just from the opening scene i knew what i was getting into and it was bad as hell. The perfomances were cheesy, the characters cartoonish and as hot as Zeta-Jones might be she can't save the movie from being a waste of time. (0/10)

This movie is a hilarious, searing caricature of divorce lawyers. Unfortunately most of the bad reviews you're reading are from people who clearly didn't get any of the jokes. If you're at all familiar with divorce and lawyers you'll be rolling. Is it predictable... parts of it are meant to be predictable although there is a hilarious twist. It's meant to be about the ride, not necessarily about the ingenuity of the plot twist, which there is. In short, Clooney plays a divorce lawyer totally in love with himself. He earns a ton of money and will clearly make up anything he can in order to win a case for his clients, even go so far as to the ridiculous. The facts aren't important - only what the jury believes the facts are. Catherine Zeta Jones plays a sly sexy woman whose sole goal is to be like the other shallow women in the movie - to marry a rich husband and catch them in some act of wrongdoing so that they can leave with lots of money. The courtroom scenes are hysterical. There are parts that are accurate and others are clearly caricatures, purely for laughs lampooning the truth of what really does go on in courtrooms. If you enjoy smart, highbrow humor, you may enjoy this film. If you also have a legal background, you'll probably love this film.

This film tells the story of a beautiful woman who swindles ex-husbands for their wealth by divorce. The plot is clever, as there is always a game to play for the two lead characters. The successful lawyer thinks he's immune to divorce settlements as he has the impeccable prenuptial agreement, yet the sly woman has always got a better trick for him. The power struggle between them is fun and entertaining. This clever game of cat and mouse is very interesting, especially as the stakes gets increasingly higher as time goes on. In addition, the two lead characters are so beautiful and confident, making them slightly different from the usual leads of romantic comedies. I enjoyed watching "Intolerable Cruelty".

George Clooney and Catherine Zeta-Jones anchor a strong cast, but ultimately only elevate this film to B-grade. The tone of the storytelling jumps from real to screwball, as if a smart version and a stupid version of the story were filmed at the same time and then edited together at random. George Clooney in Las Vegas; what a novel concept. And Catherine Zeta-Jones married to someone a quarter-century older stretches credibility a bit (no, wait, perhaps that is plausible). For an optimal viewing experience, watch this movie somewhere in the middle of your Coen Brothers movie marathon. Also recommended: popcorn and a beverage, a mid-movie intermission, or some other mild distractions to break up the slightly bloated 100 minute running time.
