Three stories told simultaneously in ninety minutes of real time: a Republican Senator who's a presidential hopeful gives an hour-long interview to a skeptical television reporter, detailing a strategy for victory in Afghanistan; two special forces ambushed on an Afghani ridge await rescue as Taliban forces close in; a poli-sci professor at a California college invites a student to re-engage.

Sadly Over-hyped

Yash Wade

Close shines in drama with strong language, adult themes.

Yes, absolutely, there is fun to be had, as well as many, many things to go boom, all amid an atmospheric urban jungle.

a great movie. this is the decent start point for define it. first, for performances. second, for the perspective about politic and war. not the last, for the admirable job of Robert Redford. sure, after many films about similar subject, it is easy to criticize it. but it is more than a story of idealism and fall of noble intentions. it is a film about rolling history. about its trues and about the need of desire to change everything. not as expression of naivety . but as duty. short, a real great film.

Lions for lambs was better than I thought it would be, based on the mostly negative critical reviews for it. This movie has a powerhouse cast including tom cruise, Meryl Streep, and Robert Redford, who also directed this. The cast works well together and the script is pretty well written. The very high tension and impactful confrontation scenes involving the main cast members are moving and very cool to see go down. Andrew Garfield is also good here, better than expected actually. I'm not quite sure why lions for lambs received mostly negative reviews, I thought it was entertaining, and above all, thought provoking. Michael Pena is awesome here too, he gave a powerful well done performance. He showed courage and a lot of heart in his role in the film. This movie is directed very well by Redford, and I would encourage movie fans of all kinds to tune in to this movie if you happen to see it on television, or on Amazon prime, or anywhere. 8/10 for Lion for Lambs.

Merely a soapbox for a Redford rant. Had potential: an examination of how soldiers' lives are sacrificed to further the careers of politicians. Unfortunately, Robert Redford turned it into a soapbox and gave an incredibly biased and preachy diatribe on the matter. The simple 3-setting, 3 viewpoints, was pretty simple and effective, but gets boring after a while. The military scenario was contrived and unrealistic. Great cast - Meryl Streep, Redford himself, Tom Cruise, Peter Berg, Michael Pena, Andrew Garfield - but they're all wasted, due to the script and direction.Ultimately, a very disappointing movie from a great cast and once-great director.

Senator Jasper Irving (Tom Cruise) is an up and coming Republican Senator and he's giving an hour long interview to reporter Janine Roth (Meryl Streep). In Afghanistan, special forces Ernest Rodriguez (Michael Peña) and Arian Finch (Derek Luke) fell out of their helicopter after being attacked. Both stories are alluding to Iranian assistance to the Taliban. Also poli-sci Professor Stephen Malley (Robert Redford) is trying to get apathetic student Todd Hayes (Andrew Garfield) to try harder. He tells the story of Ernie and Ari.The three stories don't flow that well together. The only compelling story is to wonder what happened to Ernie and Ari. They are definitely trying to make a message movie. Two of the three stories are very static taking place in a room. The message is high minded and tiresome. The interview feels like a tired Sunday morning political discussion. The professor and student part feels a little more interesting. This whole exercise feels manufactured after watching a lot of cable news or maybe too many encounters with apathetic young people.
