Wonderful character development!
The movie runs out of plot and jokes well before the end of a two-hour running time, long for a light comedy.

View MoreThe movie is wonderful and true, an act of love in all its contradictions and complexity
View MoreIt's about high school girl who gets married to an older guy (college graduate or something), a close family friend. Underage girl, marriage, older guy - controversial ah? One may think there will be some questions raised.. But..Generally speaking, Korean cinematography works for me. I had to say this since a lot of my friends have prejudices and dislike everything (films I mean) that's Asian but not martial art-ish.That being said, this movie lacks a good story and character development. It's unconvincing. Bad plot. This is supposed to be a romance comedy but it's not much funny nor much romantic. It feels like an instant lets-make-movie-and-get-some-money-without-much-effort movie.Acting is excellent.Authors note: I really like facial expressions which I also noticed in some other movies like My Sassy Girl etc. They get me every time along with the crying scenes. I'm pathetic I know. :) Anyways, there are much better films in my opinion but watch it if you will. For good acting I'll give it 3 out of 10.
View MoreBoeun (Geun-yeong Mun)a fifteen year old school girl is sent to collect Sangmin(Rae-won Kim), a university aged guy that she has known all her life from the airport. There we notice that Sangmin has somewhat of an eye for the ladies. Sangmin had been studying abroad for a year. When they reach home we discover that the Grandfather has called Sangmin back because he wants Sangmin & Boeum to marry before he dies, now. During the Korean War Sangmin's & Boeum's grandfathers promised that they would become in-laws, that wasn't possible with their children as they both had boys. Both parties aren't enthusiastic but Boeum's wily old grandfather manages to coerce them into marriage by pretending he was dying in hospital. The problem is neither Boeun nor Sangmin are mature enough to be married. Which is proved when Boeun ends up running away at the airport instead of going on her honeymoon. We follow Boeun & Sangmin as they settle into marriage and living together (but in separate rooms) while at the same time trying to keep their marriage a secret. While it is legal to get married at fifteen in Korea it isn't exactly standard practise. When Sangmin ends up becoming a teaching intern at Boeun's school he attracts the romantic attentions of a female teacher - Miss Kim. When Miss Kim discovers that he is married to Boeun she punishes Boeun by making her paint a wall for the school festival on her own. It is this or rather the help that Sangmin gives Boeun (without her knowledge) every night that leads her to realise that she is in love with him.I suppose if you come from somewhere like American you'll recoil screaming 15 year old girl, college aged man - Statutory Rape. However both of the characters aren't American. They don't have the hard edge or the worldly wises that someone in the West would have. Take for instance Sangmin - wannabe pervert / playboy - all he does is look or talk about beautiful girls. You don't actually see him talking to them. There is a scene where he is standing with his shirt off in front of his male friends and his female (a couple of years older)Supervisor comes into the room. He all but screamed and pulled a sheet up to cover himself. You've never seen a guy move so fast. It was hilarious. You wouldn't see a guy of that age doing that in the West. This movie has a charming naiveté and is very funny with well drawn out characters. I would recommend it to anyone who is looking for something different from the regular run of the mill Hollywood fare.
View MoreWhile My Sassy Girl still to this day sets extremely high standards in the Korean and non-Korean romantic comedy cesspool, more films go through the lab of sometimes unfair comparisons and unforgiving expectations. Oh, people still enjoy them, no doubt about that, but the "great original" portrait of My Sassy Girl hangs high as a true testament of perfect mix of comedy, romance and melodrama. This film is no different from all the other romantic comedies from Korea, as it makes you yearn for the same feelings that you attained while and after viewing MSG. The story of course is completely different. Sang-min is a college student planning on prospering his carefree dating life and Bo-eun is his 16 year old childhood pal who has a crush on a boy from her school. Next is Bo-eun's grandfather trying his best to get them marry each other against their will. Keep the age difference in mind, which in no way should be viewed as a "gross" endeavor, but merely as a cultural difference. While this movie lacks supernatural enigmas and over the top action, it easily makes up for it with great chemistry between the two leads.Geun-young Moon's performance was especially interesting to note here after her completely different outing in A Tale Of Two Sisters. Rae-won Kim is no rookie to playing such roles and he did a refreshingly good job here as well.Another fine accomplishment in this film is delivered through its length, which stands at almost two hours. It lets the story gradually develop along with its characters, making all transitions and actions feel well paced and believable. If before watching Korean romantic comedies you know each time what exactly you are getting yourself into, then don't hesitate to give this movie a try. Although predictable like the majority of light romantic comedies, it offers good laughs and a rare hand in the character development, making the viewing time effortless and vastly enjoyable without hackneyed emotions and unfit melodrama.
View MoreWhen I saw the cover I thought that it was just another cheesy love story between a girl and an older guy.But as soon as I started watching I couldn't turn away...not for a second. Although the story is not very original, the comedy sure was with an excellent cast and humorous antics that will make you laugh and cry.Although this may sound clichéd, Seo Bo-eun and Park Sang-min do really make a nice couple. Miss Kim was also another cast member who should receive some recognition for her great acting talent, even though she wasn't a main character. To all those yet to decide whether to go and borrow or rent this I would really recommend it.
