Wonderful character development!
one of my absolute favorites!
Bad Acting and worse Bad Screenplay
It's the kind of movie you'll want to see a second time with someone who hasn't seen it yet, to remember what it was like to watch it for the first time.
View MoreHave I seen the poster for this movie before seeing the movie, I'd never have watched it. It's so fail I don't know where to begin. Compositionally and conceptually it looks as if it's been done by a 3 year old. Then the text below hints that the movie is a comedy. This movie is a few things but certainly not a comedy (granted, it brings out a few giggles occasionally but amongst much crying material).I'm not surprised nobody bothered to see this movie when it was so ridiculously advertised. I agree with someone saying before that the movie is underrated. It very much is. I will name a few reasons why I feel this way.It gives you a sense of how difficult it was for women to be independent in those days. There weren't many eligible lifestyle options for women then. The most common one was to get married and be a house wife. When that failed, all hell broke loose. You can either accept and ignore your whoring disrespectful husband or take off and hope for the best. There are no embellishments. People show their true faces. Their honest ugly selves. Lack of love between the sisters, well, hatred would probably be a better word for it. Lack of love for your own children, shown by Georges father when he refuses to take his son in. That's what some people really are like. People are self-centered and selfish creatures, by evolutionary design. If they aren't, it's only because they've been touched by stardust.I expect many many great things from Logan Lehrman.
View MoreThe poster and the presence of Reneé Zellweger in the leading role might suggest My One and Only is a romantic comedy, and even though it has some characteristics from that genre, the truth is that it is in fact something different...but not necessarily good.To start with, I was surprised when I found out that the film is a semi-biography of actor George Hamilton...or better said, of his mother Anne, whose search of love made her to undertake a trip around the United States in the early 50's.However, despite the competent performances, I did not like this movie, mainly because I did not find that story to be interesting. The story from My One and Only is so light that I never cared about the characters and their search of love and economical support. The obsessive fans of Hamilton's might find this story about his teenage life, which explains the big attachment he had with his mother, interesting. But as a casual spectator, I did not find this movie satisfactory as a family drama nor as a "road movie".Nevertheless, I have to admit I liked the performances from Zellweger in a character which reminded me of the one she interpreted in Appaloosa; from Logan Lerman, who is much better in here than he was in the atrocious Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief; from Mark Rendall as the step brother of Lerman's character; and from the underrated character actors Chris Noth and David Koechner. However, even though the performances are good, they are not enough for rescuing My One and Only from its emotional apathy and narrative inertia. In conclusion, I cannot recommend My One and Only, because despite its good intentions and solid performances, it frankly bored me pretty much.I think that this movie needed more influence from Hollywood and less from the real life.I am not against the realism, but there are occasions in which it is necessary to sacrifice it in order to make an entertaining film experience.
View Moreor sort of a true story. The movie doesn't tell you in the beginning that it is based on a real person, but at the end of the film we learn one of the characters is a real person whom became an actor. The movie has funny and dramatic parts. It's about a wife, Anne Deveraux, whom is tired of her cheating husband. So she takes her two teen sons and they go on a road trip. She goes to Boston, Pittsburg, ST. Louis, in search of a new husband. She runs into some old flames, but none of them are really interested in a middle aged woman with two kids. She finally goes to Los Angles, where at the end of the film, one of her kids becomes an actor. He changes his last name to Hamilton and becomes known as George Hamilton.FINAL VERDICT: OK, worth checking out on cable.
View MoreWjile maybe not the best film of the year it certainly is better than most of the trash that's been released thus far. No car chases, explosions, killings, drugs or sex nor foul language. No wonder it was a flop at the box office. Tis a pity as this is an exceptionally dramady. Good performances from the entire cast, down to the tiniest bits. Rene Zellweger was at the top of her game here. The boys playing her sons were sensational with the character of Robbie having the best one-liners and delivering them with zest. Very authentic look of the film which makes it even better. An extra scene here and there would have helped with what was going on part of the time. A couple of scenes seem to jump as if there was something missing. The only unreal thing is the taxi driving up to the sound stage at the end. That couldn't happen in real life. It's a shame this didn't have a broader release as no one saw it. Hope the DVD release is seen by many.
